When you look at listings on guild traders the disparity on prices is not that big between EU and NA so my educated guess is that either crowns are more readily available in the NA server or demand is lower.

What is driving the exchange rates up in the EU server is that demand grossly outstrips supply. There is a lot of gold going around but not a lot of people ready to exchange their hard earned cash for it.

I'm sorry to read about your experience, it IS a horrible situation to find yourself in. Whilst not Crown related, I was ripped off with a zone 'WTB your alchemy ingredients' years ago. large quantities of Cornflower and Ladies Smock vanished along with the player concerned. The usual pattern followed, player puts you on ignore, your can't communicate with them etc. It both troubled and upset me so much, I vowed never again to deal with any WTB/WTS transaction with another random player/player from guild etc. Kindly advice of 'Parking it up' and 'learn from your mistakes' I found easier said than done. I wasn't the first or the last to be ripped off by scammers.

I have dipped my (nervous) toes into water of buying Crowns from the Crown Exchange Guilds mentioned already and have bought crown store items on three occasions without issue. Happy to report it was a very positive experience. Although the first time I bought Crowns, met the player selling Crowns and the broker in Vivec City, I was mortified to see the other player was on my ignore list. (I use Toxic Player addon) Really! Unsure of what would happen, I just gave the broker my 2.5 million gold. However, a close call and I really 'dodged' a bullet there. Having to my horror realised that no Crown gift had been received, (I guess Ignore status prevents the sending of even a Crown store gift by someone you have on ignore!) my gold given to broker, everyone gone on their merry way. I began to panic slightly, I quickly removed said player from ignore, messaged them and got a reply from said Toxic Player wondering why I had returned my 'gift', the sound of my gift arriving within seconds was reassuring. I apologised and said I returned the gift in error. (Blush) Clearly this player had no memory of the sitution why I was compelled to put them on Ignore. I did. PVP! That's another story. They remain off ignore, I've not seen or heard from them since.

I really hope you get your gold back. Other's have. If you see the player concerned trying to trade in zone, maybe warn other players please.

They say every cloud has a silver lining, whilst nothing like losing millions of gold, the amount I lost was significant to me personally. From my own experience, and seeing the same alchemy scammer repeatedly spam their WTB shizzle in Hollow City, I followed this player and warned players about the scammer in zone and not to trade. Some responses from players were nice and grateful, others not so. Incredibly after a small chat with a player, they even sent me the gold I'd lost! Such an act of kindess, shows that there are some amazing people out there, as in real life, We play amongst the Good, The Bad and the [snip] Ugly too.

Zos may do something, they may not, but it's just *not* realistic to expect them to start policing every interaction between players. They have enough to do ...

I hope ZOS updates their ToS and CoC to make buying crowns ingame with gold go against it so i stop seeing all this in the forums. I've never ever agreed with buying crowns with gold, it's far too risky and not worth the stress of being uncertain whether it's a good idea or not.

    Here a suggestion:

When you buy something for crowns, you get said item transferred as a consumable into your inventory. This item can be refunded, traded or sold. Can only be refunded by the original buyer.

First of all, if u are sending Crown Store item, before u recive gold - thats UR fault. Everyone smart know, u dont do this way.

Next - if u are lookin for ,,gold'' offers with low price/exchange value in Zone Chat, then be prepared to get scammed. Maybe behind that noob seller, covers a smart scammer.

U take the risk, u need to take consequences. As an adult, u should be aware of this.

Do you recall our previous conversation about the crown gold exchange not being 100% safe?

This OP's post highlights my concern and shows why the crown store items can "NOT" be had with gold. ZOS even states its a risk.

Yes I do, the OP was buying in Zone from some random player because he thought he was getting a half price deal, instead of paying going rate using a service that literally guarantees the transition.

Those "services" are not ZOS approved, not part of the game and are subject to abuse. There are no official ZOS methods for exchanging gold for crown store items.

Thats why you should use Tamriel Crown Exchange...

Or World Crown Exchange, which is generally considerably cheaper. You can also post a buy order on WCE at the rate you are willing to pay, or look for sellers selling at a rate you are comfortable with. You aren't going to get a "half price" deal like the OP was attempting to do(because those don't actually exist), but you aren't locked into whatever TCE has set as their price, currently 1000:1 (950:1 for Black Friday), while numerous reputable sellers on WCE are selling around 800-850:1.

Just search Discord communities for "World Crown Exchange" to find them.

Those "services" charge gold and are not part of the game, not approved by ZOS and are subject to abuse.

The only 100% guarantee that a gold/crown store item exchange will not be abused, is if ZOS allows for a crown/gold exchange.

Knowing however that this will cost them money, I think its safe bet to assume this will never happen.
  • pencapchew22b14_ESO
I think ZOS should have a crown exchange for gold added to the store. Guild Wars 2 allows this. It would cut down on scams like this.

Again, as I mentioned on the first page: only the posted can properly clarify this, but it would seem they got scammed out of gold and not crowns. They've done it exactly as you state, which is to hand over the gold first and they never got the item and can't get their gold back.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a wild assumption: the original poster didn't know this person had scammed people before giving them the gold. If they did know... well... that would be a special kind of special, wouldn't it?

ZOS (Rich Lambert) have mentioned a few times that they are not entirely happy with the current implementation. We don't know what ZOS has planned for the future. Maybe in the future we will see either a Guild Wars or Neverwinter style enchange system.

Apparently ZOS bans for using the gifting system to link carries with real money.

People often seem to think that ZOS has some sort of interest in making GOLD-CROWN exchanges more secure, reliable, and equitable. I am not sure that this is the case. ZOS is not in the GOLD-CROWN business for reasons, and they seem OK with treating it as an entirely player managed activity. If it starts to become a problem, like if scamming gets out of hand or too many people use it to facilitate paying real money for in-game activities, they might take the opposite action and decide it is more prudent to shut it down than try to manage it.

I recommend using verified crown sellers through a exchange or using a guild. Large trading guilds often monitor members and sometimes even reimburse to an extent.

It’s insane that this is still allowed to happen.

Whenever someone has asked me what the most profitable way to make gold in ESO is, I tell them it is by scamming people because ZOS supports it lol.

Most games have a system like this when real world currencies can be exchanged between players for fake in-game currency:
    1. Go to the Crown Store
    2. “Gift” an item
    3. In the Purchase tab choose you option:
    - For me
    - As a gift
    - Trade offer (new option)
    4. Type in the player’s Name
    5. A trade window prompt appears for that player to accept or deny if in your proximity
    6. Your window shows the crown store item, while the other person can put however much gold/other items they want. Both players accepting this trade is what triggers the item to be purchased from the Crown Store

Nothing about this is a genius idea lol. It’s shocking that it doesn’t exist and I’d be willing to bet the majority of ESO Support tickets are related to scams just like this.

    I am sorry OP.

What really sucks though, is that they will reimburse some players and not all. If you make exceptions for some people, you should do so for everyone.

I also understand that the crown rates are crazy high right now, but honestly the Discord servers are (Generally) super safe. I never got scammed, as I can check beforehand if someone has already made some deals, and if not I get a middle man. If they react negatively to the middle man proposal, even after saying you will cover the extra gold cost, and have 0 deals done, you already know this person will most likely try to scam you, so you can move on and keep your gold.

However, I truly hope the support will rethink their decision and help you. Good luck.

The email response in the OP does not suggest the scammer is getting away with the same. It clearly points out that scamming is a violation of the ToS but that the transaction is buyer beware. That says to me that will investigate this which could lead to action against the scammer but they may not may you whole as they are not required to do so.

I do hope they do rid the game of that scammer. This is also a lesson for everyone who trades crowns that taking the precautions I have seen mentioned in other threads such as a third party escro since Zenimax does not have to return our gold or crowns if we get scammed.

Preferably I would like such trading to become secure via a trading mechanism. The easiest way is probably to make it so we can list the items we can give to our guild traders. That would be secure.

That could be the case but it is a question worth asking since the information more likely than not came from guilds or friends. They would have likely spoken up when they got scammed as you suggest. Of course, it could be OP spoke about this in zone chat and got that information that way but then we would have to consider the information highly suspect due to trolls in gen chat.

Security in contracts and trade are literally one of the backbones of society, one of the things without which we couldn't have the modern society we have now. OP did the adult thing, report the scammer to the proper authorities. Now ZOS should do something about it instead of letting their customers get scammed. The scammed person is not the problem in this story. It's the scammer for ripping people off, and zos for not helping OP or having a secure interface for trade.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

The response looks like an automated first response. The automated first responses are very rarely useful as they are more just a we got your request and will look at it type of message. You have to follow up to get a real response. Starting a new ticket just starts everything over though so you have to follow up with the initial ticket.

I got scammed twice, and got gold back both times.Make sure to keep convos in ESO(best to have it set to show @ names),not discord, emails, etc,so they have logs to verify it.Also screenshot everything, and add to the automessage they send you.Scammer usually change @name once they scam enough ppl, usually telling them to relog they can't send, then you lose all the chat stuff.

I got gold back from. ZOS - 2.1 million - but got my gold back after following up an auto reply with a request for a refund. I suspect that it has something to do with who answers- so maybe try again with a specific request.

    can confirm it.

Got 500k gold refund after replying to the first reply. Took 4 weeks, but ok.
I bought from a guildie so thought it was safe, but you never stop learning :(
Also the account disappeared, but I think the scammer just renamed it.

However they emphasize that you get a refund only once.
Since then I only buy from sources I trust, CP1200+ guild members,, or use a middleman (standard procedure on xbox EU meanwhile).

But as trustable sellers became rare and I became tired of the effort (like finding middlemen) I actually buy very seldom crownstore items. I mean it is just some cosmetics, and if ZOS adds a barrier to get them I just skip.

The community here has been going downhill for sometime. If offenses like this are not dealt with they will happen over and over again and the players will go elsewhere or be like me, increasingly absent from the game.

I would love to convert a bunch of my 50 million to store things but don't trust anyone in this game.

When I was in wow they provided a gold buying service. I would love it if ZOS did the same.

As of now I am committed to never subbing again or buying any new chapters until things improve.
