Add option to hide backpacks from costumes

I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but I really don't like the look of backpacks on costumes. There are so many good looking costumes completely ruined by the addition of a bulky sack glued to my character's back. The most recent of these is the Oblivion Explorer's Garb. I was really excited to get the costume because I loved the look of the Anchorite's clothes in the Deadlands DLC, but was disappointed when I saw the random backpack attached to it.

We need an option in Gamplay settings to hide costume backpacks, the same way we have an option to hide polymorph helmets or hide mount upgrade visuals. There are so many costumes I'd love to wear, or love to buy, but never do because of the bloody backpacks attached to them.

Backpacks on the costumes are good actually but the real problem is the clipping weapons with them.

wait? Can we actually have a backpack visible on our back? :open_mouth:

Some costumes like Treasure Hunter, Graverobber, and the mentioned Oblivion Explorer's Garb are examples of costumes that put a backpack on your character.

I agree that we should be able to hide them just like helmets. I for one would love to also be able to put on a backpack on a costume that does not come with one.

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

I don't see where this is an issue.

The number of costume options that you have which do Not have backpacks, Far exceeds the few that do. Anyone should be able to find a large number of costumes that they like which do not have backpacks, if that is what they want.

And quite frankly, from an immersion standpoint, having a few options that Do have backpacks is a good thing for those who want a more 'realistic' look to their fantasy experience.

If it was an option/toggle (like the various upgrades on mounts), I'd be fine with it. I like the packs, and other odds n ends (vials, books, sacks etc), but it would be nice if those who loved the costumes but not the backpacks could hide them.

It doesn't matter if just one or many costumes have backpacks... it still ruins the look on the ones that do, which makes them unusable for many.

I hate the backpacks and fanny packs and other bulky items they add to some costumes. These completely ruin immersion because they look like modern day items, not something I'd expect in other times. Even if they did fit the time I still hate them and won't use a costume that has them.

Yeah would be nice to hid these to, i too was disappointed with Oblivion explorer outfit, as mentioned it looks a good outfit what Anchorite wears then they slap a ghastly ugly backpack on the back of it. Just ruined it, wont be wearing it now. Shame as other wise was excellent costume.

I mean Ötzi the Iceman had a backpack 🎒 and his mummy is from 3000 BC. While the ones in eso do have a much more modern look, they don't look out of place in a world that has something like Clockwork City IMO. For me having them also feels more authentic because our characters travel a lot.

The thing is, no one is saying "don't have backpacks" by all means, have them. What we're saying is we want a TOGGLE so that we can turn them on/off.

I like backpacks on some costumes, but I'm getting sick of seeing them on every new "adventurer" type costume they come out with. I'd personally love it if they added a "no backpack" toggle to the settings of the game so we could toggle them on and off. Sometimes I just don't want to wear one, while other times I do. I have characters that look great carrying a backpack, and I have characters that don't at all.

Better yet, it would be really cool if we had a separate cosmetic "back slot", where things like backpacks, wings on armor, and other glamour items could be slotted via the collections menu, so that those who love backpacks/back accessories could even mix and match them with outfits that were never intended to have a backpack. (I'd personally like to be able to toggle wings onto certain pieces of armor that don't have them, for example)

There is no down side to this system. In fact, those who love backpacks would BENEFIT from ZOS deciding to expand a toggling system.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I know a lot of people that love the backpacks, so I think it would be ridiculous to remove them. But literally no one is suggesting to remove them, only to add a toggle option to show/hide them as you can with polymorph helmets, or mount upgrades.
