Do you consider yourself a MMO addict?

When i was younger i was playing one MMO my entire day, every day, very hyped about dailies and character development. Several times it caused me a burnout, but after several days i was fine and playing again. During that time i didn't go out with friends, didn't watch movies, didn't play single player story based games, didnt work or study. Now i consider those years wasted.
Currently i play ESO usually for 1 hour per day, rarely 2 hours, but also working, going out with friends, playing single player story games, watching movies, and consider it a better option. But when i was addicted i was totally happy about my life.
So what about you?

Can you please add an option "Elder Scrolls addict"? It's me. MMO or a single game - I don't care. I love all Elder Scrolls games. I don't care for friends or combat or whatever - I need the Elder Scrolls universe and new lore.
P.S.: 12 803, 2 hours in ESO. I don't know if it is a big deal or small... Playing since 2016

This is both a very good question and also a hard question to answer. Like, I see myself in some of what you said, but not all. I work because I have to, even though I’d much rather be doing fun things that include playing an mmorpg, so I don’t let my desire to play jeopardize that part of my life; I engage in activities such as watching tv or going to movies with my family even if I MIGHT secretly rather be spending time in Tamriel; but on my day off work when I have time to myself I spend more of that time playing ESO than I probably should, to be honest. THAT’S the time spent I worry that someday I might regret when I look back.

I have played for about 1.5 years in total and I am at about 1250hrs. I also play my wife's account once in a while to keep her not too far off from where my char is and farm matts she needs for crafting her housing items she loves so much, do her writs and stuff. I didnt know how much I played till this thread made me take a quick look lol. I play video games over watching TV and I only play one game at a time. So if I start playing something else. I unsub from ESO. I think Im fine IMO. Am I wrong???????? LOL

No. I play for a few hours a day, same as other people watch TV for a few hours a day, or whatever.
I might have been addicted when I first started playing the game and for a while after... but that was a few years ago and I can't remember exactly.
I do remember playing Skyrim every chance I could so I suppose I was "addicted" to it.

I think I am maybe, I spend too much time on it when I probably should spend my time doing something more productive.
The game is just so good lol.
I will say during lockdown this game is probably the only thing outside of family that kept me sane, and I appreciate that.

I used to be very addicted. I often spent entire days playing MMOs, and planned vacations around new expansions, even calling in when I couldn't get the time off I wanted.

I play much less now, even though I have a lot more free time. I average 2 to 3 hours a day, sometimes less. The biggest difference, though, is I don't let playing interfere with my home life any more. So I consider it more of a hobby now rather than an addiction.

I play everyday with the occasional exception if family commitments require me not to. I'm not addicted though as it's the same as any hobby someone really loves. It's just part of my life now.

Never cared for mmos. I tolerate ESO for end game and general shenanigans (previously pvp but that's done with). I find most of the stories, dialogue, and game world to be very shallow. I still try to get into everything and there are a small number of exceptionns, but mmos feel like amusement parks compared to other types of games. Different strokes, yeah?

    MMO addict? Absolutely not.
Elder Scrolls Addict ... that is another story.
I was introduced to the Elder Scrolls Franchise with the Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, and have been sucked into the world since then.
Before ESO, I was avidly against anything close to MMO's. The only reason I started playing ESO is because I needed something new to feed my Elder Scrolls craving after putting more than a thousand hours into Skyrim.

Only in the sense that someone might say they're addicted to any hobby. I get excercise, have a pretty scrupulous work ethic, parent, watch a movie here and there, etc. I also play two MMOs and normally spend several hours a week divided between them, just not at the expense of other areas of my life.

My husband used to have an addiction, gaming interfered with his job (mainly via no sleep) and while I wouldn't go so far as to say it was ALL he cared about, it definitely rated higher than a hobby. He came very, very close to losing the career he'd invested years working toward and that was his wake-up call.

TES addict yes. MMO, no. I played WoW and RIFT (not concurrently) for a decade. From 2013 to 2018 I played Oblivion and Skyrim. June of 2018 I gave ESO a try, and while I do play a lot every day (I've been retired since 2005), I also do housework, laundry, cooking, and 80 mile shopping round trips, as well as doctors etc which is what we did today, since husband messed up a hearing aid again. And in the evening after dinner, I read - voraciously.

When I get to a stopping point in game, I stop for the day.... Now, I did NOT play anything while I was working full time from 2000 to 2005 with that 80 mile round trip on top of 9 hour days (because I can get obsessive enough with a new game that I have trouble doing much else when I'm home but playing it - and a full time job means there's WAY too much to do once one is back at home)....

Put around 2600+ hrs in ESO but it is the only MMO I've ever played...
Not sure if F76 counts since when I played it, it seemed more like an alpha.
I have Black Desert but have never actually played it.

My approach to games has always been pretty much the OP's second example. I play games (not just ESO) for a few hours in the evenings and at weekends, when I'm not doing other things. Yesterday for example I only logged on enough to get the daily reward because I had people coming over so the rest of my day was busy. Today I was working most of the day, then I made (and ate!) dinner, now I'm online while my husband is watching some stupid chase movie.

I'm sure some people would say I'm addicted, but I also know at least some of those people watch about 5 hours of TV every day and I don't see how that's really any different, except that I find this more interesting.

I've also never been one to stick to just one game. As well as ESO I play Guild Wars 2 and various single-player games. I recently finished a little narrative game called Lost Words: Beyond the Page (which is great) and I've started yet another run through Baldur's Gate.

Computer gaming became my main hobby when I bought my first computer in 1983 (for gaming), and when I got a dial-up internet connection in 1997 it was to play MUDs and early MMOs, followed by the modern range of MMORPGs. It's a part of my life, but not the most important part, and it remains a hobby and has never been an addiction.

I used to be, but each year I get older, I seem to back off from it more and more and spend more time in the "real world," making sure I'm spending enough time with family, my cats, being outdoors and getting fresh air, cooking healthy meals, being active and exercising, etc.

I created a new account, started from scratch with a no-CP character with no crafting or anything else that makes me feel like I have to log in daily to get things done like crafting dailies or collecting motifs or furniture recipes and fighting RNG the whole way. That stuff just led to frustration and I lost the whole spirit of what gaming is supposed to be - fun.

Now I log in when I feel like it, not feeling like I'm missing anything if I skip a day or multiple days, and when I do log in, I just casually wander around doing whatever I feel like.

Since doing that, I feel physically and mentally healthier. :)

No. If this game was something other than Elder Scrolls I either would never have tried it, or quit it completely ages ago, but it was pretty much my first MMO, or at least first one I put any proper time into.

I did play some BDO but eventually quit, have zero interest in ever going back. Played hundreds of hours of GW2 and do occasionally jump back into that. But ESO and GW2 I only play a couple of hours monthly, if that. I'm back to single player games otherwise and no other MMO catches my eye.
    PC/NA
Moved onto BDO and GW2 Skyrim, ATS/ETS2, ACNH and the overall goodness of single player games

An addiction is an unhealthy habit and one that the addicted person would be better off to kick. They say admitting the problem is half the battle and I don't wanna quit so I'm not admitting anything.

    Real answer though

I live in a really small town. If it is later than 6:30pm nothing is open. Nearest convenience store after that time is twenty miles away. Nearest bar might be seventy miles away. Nearest movie theater is twenty miles and open on weekends only. I don't watch much tv and right now I am waiting to have a knee replaced so I do play quite a bit.

Soon as I get my new knee I will be out and about doing photography. Would rather be sitting in a bush somewhere for hours on end several days in a row trying to get the just right photo of a little bird than sit in front of my computer. Until then though I play a lot.
Last time I got to go play with my camera I got these.

My definition of addiction is: When you stop doing other stuff for your addiction, you are addicted. (especially if you miss sleep!)

I used to play games for many days, years. But I still did everything else I wanted to do, sports, going out, school, sleep, etc. I never once let anything slide, just to play games. But I was always gaming when I had nothing to do. And this includes many games, single players and some of the earliest MMO's. But never once was I addicted.

At the moment everything for me is flipped upside down, so I can basically play 24/7. But I only play as long as I want. Some days this means only the crafting dailies, while other days I play for 8-10 hours overall. Depends on my mood. But never an addiction.
