Crit values vs Crit % numbers don't make sense

I know this subject has been discussed plenty before but I couldn't find any articles that seemed to address this speciic issue, so here goes:

I have 2 gear set combinations for my character (sorcerer), one intended for everyday and the other intended for dungeons etc. When I add up the spell "critical chance" values (and I do know to only add once, and not per gear item) one setup gives a total crit chance of 5215 and crit percent of 47.4%, where the other setup gives a crit chance of 5636 with a crit percent of 44.2%. This seems counterintuive, one would think the higher chance value would result in a higher percent.
Neither gear setup gives any additional buff like Major Savagery, I don't change CP allocations when switching gear, the mundus doesn't change with gear sets (it doesn't effect crit anyway), character is level 50/938CP, gear is all level 50/160CP improved to gold (if that makes a difference), no enchantments affect crit chance (just damage) so I don't know what could be affecting the gear to make it behave this way. The 5215 combination does have slightly higher max magicka (about 200), could that affect crit percent?

Did you change any piece to medium/heavy armor? Each piece of light armor gives you 219 critical chance

No, all armor in both setups is light.

    Setup #1 (crit chance 5215, 47.4%):
    Gear:
Mother's Sorrow: hat, shoulder, chest, belt, boots - gold
    Julianos: gloves, breeches - gold
    Traits: Divines except gloves (infused).
    Enchantments: Max Magicka
    Jewelry:
Spell Parasite: Necklace purple, rings blue
    Traits: Bloodthirsty
    Enchantments: Spell Damage
    Weapon:
Julianos, lightning staff, Precise, Charged Weapon.

Setup #2 (crit chance 5636, 44.2%) (work in progress, needs monster shoulders and transmutes)
    Gear:
Maw of Infernals hat: Invogorating, purple
Mother's Sorrow: shoulder, chest, belt, boots gold; gloves, legs purple.
    Traits: Divines except hat
    Enchantments: Max Magicka
    Jewelry:
    Medusa: Neck purple, rings gold
    Traits: Healthy
    Enchants: Spell Damage
    Weapon:
Medusa, lightning stadd, infused, Charged Weapon

    All gear is light.

Boon: The Shadow (increase crit damage)
Medusa set gives constant Minor Force, increases crit damage

just noticed something odd: the gold mother's sorrow items in #2 have lower values ( i.e., 649 vs 657 crit chance) than the same piece used in #1. That might explain the lower crit % if it wasn't for the total crit chance numbers being higher for #2 than #1.

It also just dawned on me that precise increases spell critical. And 44.2*1.07=47.3. So I guess we can delete the thread now. Sigh.
Though precise doesn't explain how the same piece of gear can have different numbers depending on what it's worn with (or when it's in inventory).

Figured it out on your own! Nice. Yeah, that weapon trait change will do it.

The purple Mother's sorrow pieces are dragging down the set bonuses, even on the gold pieces. That is why in your second setup the set gives less crit.

That's kind of a weird way of doing it, I would have expected each piece to have its own bonus(es) independent of other gear. But it does explain the numbers changing.

    Wait what, Precise isn't additive?

He was focused on the crit rating only not realizing that Precise adds direct crit% not rating.

Sounds like you already figured it out, but when you say "two different values" for "gold items" I immediately think of: Are the items both CP160? When I first started playing the game years ago, before Guild Trader menu was updated, I purchased some low CP items thinking they were CP160... And for big gold too. I was pretty angry, but it was my fault for not catching it and hastily purchasing. Not saying that's your situation, but a warning for those out there shopping for gear like Mother's Sorrow. Some shadey merchants trying to pull fast ones on people. Lower CP gear shouldn't be worth the same as CP160, unless it's a worthless trait regardless (since collections became a thing).

Well, it’s a bonus for having certain number of certain set pieces so I think it’s reasonable that the bonus is affected by the quality of all of those pieces (how else would you determine, which of the items affect which values). :) but I can understand the confusion. In the inventory you see the actual potential of the item in its current state (level and quality), and when equipped with different quality items of the same set you will see the actual effect with that certain combination. You get each mentioned set bonus once, not multiple times per number of pieces.
