Could you give us an option to turn off Skyshards on Map/Compass?

monkeypunch1987
Hi,
I feel that it is a shame that the game shows the Skyshard location with pinpoint precision if you are close by. In delves it isn't even a search anymore, most of the times the location is known right after entering.

I really enjoyed the search for missing Skyshards with the small hints in the description. I know that skillpoints are important, but in my opinion you have overdone it. Skyshards went from a nice little exploration game to another ToDo-list...

Could you please give an option to turn them off on Map and compass? Or decrease the range of discovery by a lot? Or, even better, turn the Skyshards on the Map and Compass only on, when I'm using the Zone Guide?

Thanks for reading.

Are you on PC with add-ons? Try turning them off. I'm pretty sure on console it doesn't show you skyshard locations because no add ons.

It is part of the base game now, when you are close enough, they appear on your map.

This really bothers me too. Searching for skyshards has always been one of my favorite things about ESO. When I take breaks from a game, I can always come back and do it again on a new character since I likely won't remember their locations. But now the game just spoon feeds them to you. Why couldn't they make it optional? I'll be honest, I don't even feel like playing until a solution is presented because I don't want to accidentally learn any more skyshard locations. If anyone knows a way to disable the tracker, either with an addon or in-game setting that I've missed, please let me know.

Haven't tried, but maybe try a skyshard addon, and turn them off in the addon? Its worth a shot.

i would like an option to turn them off as well, because i do use an addon, and with both on, there's a duplicate skyshard on the map/compass. i prefer the addon, because it shows them on the map regardless of where my character is

Yeah, there should be an option to turn an uncollected skyshards off.

I only use TTC, but I would use one to turn the new Skyshard-icons off. Do you know one?

But I would prefer an official ingame solution. It could be a simple setting or a connection to the use of the Zone Guide.

I'd like this too. I really enjoy exploring in games and I will do it no matter what but it's much more fun when there's things to find and having everything marked on the map as soon as you get into the area takes that away.

Since the update I've been looking for an addon which might do this, but I haven't found one yet. There are addons to show skyshards (and other things like lore books or treasure chests) but none to hide them, presumably because it's only in the last update that it's been necessary and no one has had time to make one yet. Using one of those and disabling skyshards doesn't hide the skyshard markers added by the game itself, it just stops it adding another one on top.

There is an option to turn map markers on and off in the map, and a skyshards option has been added but that only shows/hides skyshards you've already collected. Uncollected ones come under 'objectives' but turning that off hides pretty much everything - houses, delves, towns, dungeons etc. I think it's only really useful if you want literally no info on what's where or you're taking screenshots of the map.

Ideally I'd like to see skyshards split out of the objectives category and get their own checkbox to turn them on or off, like the existing one for collected skyshards. I'd also like an option to hide other objectives until they're completed, or after they're completed. (I'd use it to hide ones I haven't completed, but some people might prefer to show only what they haven't done and remove the completed icons.)

Whenever there is a call for add-on features to be made part of the base game, that should only ever be done on an optional basis. Those of us who choose either not to use certain add-ons or, as I do, not to use add-ons at all should not have such features imposed on us. This skyshard change is a case in point!

I'm surprised they didn't give us that option because they always have before. Other things I remember which were originally only available through addons and then got added to the base game are subtitles, buffs and debuffs shown on screen, damage numbers and an indicator for who is a player, ally or enemy and all of those can be disabled if you don't want them.

Oh, there are the markers in the crafting menu for items required for a quest (which I assume is based on some crafting addon), I don't think those can be turned off but personally I find them a lot less intrusive since the quest tells you exactly what you need to make anyway.

They continously make the game easier, to be honest I don't know why. Do players become dumber or lazier every year? I guess it is so, if you look at the current "press E often enough" riddles, compared to the riddles we had a few years ago.

Even if it they need to adapt to the new player IQ average, the magic word here is "optional".

I bet there are still enough players who want at least some challenge and do not want everything served on a silver platter.

Yes, the skyshards were never that difficult to find before, but at least there was a bit of searching to be done. Now, it’s just too easy because it shows you exactly where to go and you just have to run over and collect it. The only challenge maybe being that it’s on a cliff or something and how to scale it, but others are just on the ground somewhere. So, yeah, this kind of sucks all the fun out of the exploration.

This is another excellent reason to have them optional. Surely some people will still prefer an addon, and they shouldn't be punished for doing so.

And for anyone interested, I did find a very small and very bad workaround for the time being. You can toggle off objectives on the map key and it will hide skyshards. Unfortunately, it hides all quest locations, world bosses, mundus stones and pretty much everything else of note too. Personally, I can't tolerate it, but maybe someone will find that info beneficial.

Are you sure there is no place to turn this off. Options for things like this in the menus are sometimes in weird places like Gameplay or UI or Video.

I don’t know why anyone would enjoy searching for skyshards. I’ve made many characters. The fun of hunting skyshards is non existent for me.

So why are you commenting here then? Your post contributes nothing to the discussion. No one should have to defend or justify the things they like about the game. A certain amount of people really enjoyed the skyshard hunt. Is it too much to ask that they be allowed to continue to enjoy it by making this new feature optional? It literally doesn't affect you...

I will never understand random contrarian comments like this tbh.

I enjoy searching for things, with or without clues. I enjoy the scavenger hunts that come with each expansion too. In fact they are one of my favorite things about a new zone.

There’s no sense of accomplishment now. It’s been reduced to one of those participation trophies that people are so fond of giving kids now that teach them nothing.

Which is fine by me. I'm 600h in with one character and still mostly in the first three faction areas.

I'm sure a lot of players even enjoy the new QoL change, but they always had a way to use an outside source for the exact locations of the Skyshards. We, who enjoyed the search, would just like to preserve some of our enjoyment for ESO. This change was a blow to mine, that's all. :)

I don't think that it is unreasonable to ask for an option. o:)

i dont have Map pins but skyshards for the time i am really lost to find one.

So with skyshards now you have icons for the undiscovered and covered. And now you have a third icon, larger, white and black, popping on both map and minimap.

If you remove skyshard addon, the eso icon still shows up when you comes near a skyshard so you cant miss it, and if you are not in the time of picking them up, you better do it because the icone do not vanish until you pick it and then you have the map zone covered by multiples icons large, black and white.

They should have put an option, for those who like to discover everything by themselves even in delves

i agree that for some it will help but it seems like that the start of ruining rp for those liking it

If you disable the Objectives filter, skyshards and whole bunch of other things will be removed from the map. But nothing removes them from the compass that I have found.
