So this new "skyshards on map" thing is great and has it's uses, but can there be a way to turn it off. Some of us enjoy the search. Have it on by default by all means, but not having it be an option really removes the fun for those of us who enjoy the following the clues
On PC I'm fully expecting someone to create an addon to hide skyshards from the map. There's already several addons to aid immersion, like one which hides the map and uncovers it as you explore, or one to gradually reveal NPC text as they speak so you can't skip ahead.
But it would be nice to have the option on consoles and for people who don't want to use addons as well.
I had my first encounter with this system yesterday, as I was heading into an area a skyshard marker popped up and my immediate thought was "oh, well that's one less thing to find". I suppose it's good if you're in a hurry, but I enjoy exploring and part of the fun is finding out what's there, being told where everything is as soon as you get into the area takes that away and makes it feel more like working your way through a check point list of things to pick up.

"Remember in this game we call life that no one said it's fair"
I agree, solving the riddles for Skyshards was my way to go most of the time.
I understand this can be very valuable marker, especially when you desperately need a skyshard or are searching huge delves in circles, but would love to have this as an option rather than default.
To be fair on the system, it does seem like they only show up when you're already very close, about half of a new quest marker distance. Still, it does ruin a bit of magic.
Already cancelled my ESO Plus over this until there is a fix, either official, or via addon. Call me rash, but the skyshard hunt was actually crucial to my enjoyment of the game. I was really excited to get back to questing and skyshard hunting (activities that often go hand in hand) after grinding Witches Festival skulls every day only to be met with spoon-fed skyshards all over my compass if I attempt to go anywhere I haven't already been. This forced change actually kinda ruined the game for me. No joke. No exaggeration. As it stands right now, there really isn't any content I can do other than daily writs that won't accidentally uncover skyshards for me and ruin my exploration of the zones I haven't fully cleared. I really hope they fix this in the near future or that someone makes an addon to get rid of the markers.
TBH, I haven't even noticed the skyshards on the maps yet, because my mains already have all skyshards in all of the zones they've visited, and I haven't gone to the new zone yet.
As far as ideas for improving the new feature, aside from a simple on/off checkbox in the map filters it might be nice to have a slider in the game settings that lets you increase or decrease the distance at which skyshards become visible on the map.
For some skyshards, I've found that simply knowing where they are isn't enough, because I can see them just fine-- I just can't figure out how to get to where they are! Seeing a skyshard on the map or compass isn't necessarily a guarantee that you'll be able to collect it easy-peasy.

So, apparently it's not that simple.
Once you are close to a skyshard, the marker appears on the map.
But if you don't collect the shard, it doesn't disappear but stays on the map even if you are not close.
On the picture below I wasn't even in Northern Elsweyr, but still the markers are visible.
I didn't even realise that I was close to the skyshards - I only saw the markers when I opened the map.
I really would like to a have the possibility to turn them off.
