Heh, that's perhaps the primary complaint about certain DLC dungeon and trial mechanics.
One shots have to be avoided by the target.
"Fake" one-shots that simply do a ton of damage, and that will kill *most* characters though you can do something about. You can put on damage shields or buff defenses, debuff the enemy damage and so on. But guaranteed one-shots ... be ready to raise them I guess.Edited by Fennwitty on October 28, 2021 7:00PMPC NA8 -

- Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
- Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

You don't. These type of attacks usually needs to be avoided by roll dodging, doing some mechanics or being blocked by a tank with good defenses.
Some nasty attacks do damage a bit higher than a DPS HP and can be avoided by a defense buff ou barrier. But the real 1-hit-kills that does 50, 60 or 70K damage can only be avoided by doing the right mech (some can be blocked by a buffed tank though).
In my experience, the type of damage that causes most trouble are the ones that left the group members with less than 10% life, because it left them easy to finish. What I do is always have at least 2 HoTs active. That way, while I cast the hard heals on one player (that often are slow to cast), the other players will replenish their life ASAP.1 -

Well necromancers have an ulti dedicated just to that, great for pugs:D
But generally yes, many vet dungeons, especially dlc ones, have a lot of one-shot mech. There're 2 kinds of one-shots too - one is just a hard hit which is technically surviveable with enough mitigation (sometimes you can even make it as a dps if you have block, an armor buff and a couple of shields on top of that) and then there're pure mechanical one-shots which will kill you regardless of your health and defences. Also sometimes some heavy dots or multiple hits in quick succession such as boss spell casts may look like a one-shot while they really aren't. For first and last ones, Barrier can be a great help. For the pure one-shots, well...you gotta follow the mechanic.0 -

No, nothing that you can do. This is a case of bad players blaming the healer for their lack of mechanics knowledge. I know its hard not to take it personally but in this case they are to blame not you.10 -

Yes Barrier, and Ward could of helped. I find in dungeons shields help a lot to keep the DPS, tank, and myself alive.1 -

Or two (yourself) if you go Ward Ally. Healing Ward is probably better though. If you are a magDK healer than there is also Fragmented shield you could play with, but that weak AoE Ward scales off your health. That move stuns and flashes the screen, so that's probably why they couldn't see it. The move is intentionally made to catch players off guard.
Anyway, it wasn't your fault and would just add them to your blist and forget them. If you played as a healer on FF14 (especially if you did raids and crap) then you'll be fine on this game.

Well, tank supposed to have boss facing the wall behind, and whenever the boss turns around and faces you that's your clue to dodge

"Last boss does a ground AOE, get out of it or probably one-shot. If the boss looks at you, roll dodge or it's one shot."
Ideally, said before the boss fight if you get the impression from the entire dungeon up to that point some players are inexperienced there.
It's not technically a one-shot to stand in the AOE but this gets the point across.
A less generous way is to say, "Check your death recap." Lo and behold, they took 30,000 hp of damage from one hit (or whatever the number).
EDIT: Tanks get the same type of thing when a boss attacks someone else randomly. Some bosses just do that.
I've never had an issue when I was able to type beforehand, "Last boss attacks randomly even when taunted," or "Stay close or it jumps at you," as applicable.

You can prevent some of this with adding resistances to allies, frost cloak and combat prayer, mending, damage reduction glyph, there's some sets that really overpowered in adding resistances
Teach them how to do mechics
Kick them
Get them in discord
Heal your soul and leave

That actually used to happen a lot long time ago. I actually surprised it's still possible.
The old way to avoid this is to get everyone on hill. Remind them to block. Check there health levels because anyone under 20k needs food. They probably need to swap foods too if they are dying to just that
Their cp isn't allocated in the cheap damage reduction
Swap sets to damage migration variance.
Make sure it's truly a one shot because I remember this boss actually does a rapid attack. Have heals over times on ground and burst when they do it

You tell the player not to stand in stupid, or roll dodge the mechanic. You simply can't heal through one-shots.
I'm trying to play more as a tank, and this is definitely one of the hardest aspects of tanking is learning the tells so you can dodge one-shot mechs and get back to tanking/blocking the hits you CAN absorb. Generally speaking, if a tank is getting one-shot, its probably not your fault as a healer, its because the tank needs to learn the mechanics and tells of the boss fight. Your simply not going to be able to heal everyone through everything.1
