Also it’s size also makes no sense. It would be absolutely massive up close if it were able to be seen from that distance. And then you can’t see it from zones like Reapers March. I wish it were removed.

That you can't also see it from Reaper's March is because ZOS' fidelity to the more recent ES game maps have increased hugely compared to the launch zones. I like to think this is because they've heard how important this stuff is to the community and they take pride in creating the amazing world they do. So much so that if they were to do Reaper's March today, I reckon it would be a thousand-fold improvement. Rich recently said that the world gals/guys would love to update base-game zones, but that they only have so much time. So as it is now, you either get the team working on new content, or working on the old content, and he believes everyone wants to see new places. So, the best we can do is hope and pray that situation changes in some way such that this division would no longer be a barrier. Fingers crossed!
I don't know about the scale stuff - I obvs. haven't thought about it enough, but you can also see The Tower from the southern peaks of ES5, so it could be a deliberate compromise in order to do something cool. I think its an acceptable "handling" for the sake of cool to say that the tower's metaphysical nature might make it more visible across all of Tamriel than its real height would really allow.
As for its direction/placement, I didn't notice. Did they get that wrong?
Not to blow off anyone's arguments btw, detail is super important to me, too.

It could be, but as you said it's missing the giant dark anchor. There is nothing else that resembles the White Gold Tower in that direction so it's quite possible.
Ahhhh this makes me nostalgic to TES IV: Oblivion. ^^

The direction seems fine to me. WGT is NW of Leyawiin, but not offset by much. Certainly closer to North than exactly diagonal 45 degrees Northwest.

From the northern bridge in Blackwood, if you can see it from there, it should be about 35 degrees west of north.
It should have the dark anchor over it, but since the DLC zones seem to be outside of the whole period of time when the Soulburst happened, they probably respectfully disagree.

Look at those two maps.
Not only is the WGT, smack in the center of Cyrodiil, out of the line of sight from Blackreach, but you also have an entire missing zone which can obscure your view. There is just but so much one can see before the horizon wipes it from your view.
If the tower really was that big (it isn’t) we would definitely see it from N Elsweyr and Reapers March. Esp the latter as Reapers March is all lowlands at the edges of Imperial territory.
Meanwhile you still cannot see Red Mountain from Amaya Lake Lodge House in Vvardenfell...
