Vateshran hollows essence boosts don't increase over 6k

So the essence orbs that increase your stats do not increase my resources over 6k. The big 5k orb boosts my stats and the first small orb i pick up gives me an extra 1k boost in stats. However any subsequent orb that i collect does nothing. The boost for magicka, health or stamina caps at 6k no matter if i collect 1 booster, 3 boosters or all 5 small orbs. Any idea what the issue is?
