Armor Set Combinations

I've had an idea that keeps floating around in my mind that I thought I would share.
Add the ability for different sets to interact with one another and create unique abilities.
For example, if you got 5 pieces of Almalexia's Mercy and 5 pieces of Arms of Relequen, then in addition to what each set gives you, you would get an extra ability from the combination of the two set. And if you were to instead combine 5 pieces of Almalexia's Mercy with Aegis of Galanwe you would get a completely different ability. If done right, this could make it so that sets that underperform on their own, become viable when combined with other armor sets making the whole potentially a viable combination.

And this would work with virtually any combination of 5 piece armor sets crafted, overland, group dungeon, or trial sets.

What do you think?

I think that's first, a LOT of dev time not to mention money and resources considering the sheer amount of sets in this game at this point; and second, it would be hella complex to balance. And probably seriously overpowered in some combos.

    I think that’s the idea 🤣

I’m still on my eternal quest to find that one set combination the developers somehow missed that would make my character MUCH…MORE…POWERFUL.

Heh. I know some people like that, though they mostly live in WoW these days. I'm not like that. I just want to wander overland, explore, harvest, craft.... I really would love to have quests that did NOT involve killing anything....

Yeah. I'm kind of an outlier.

Really the goal is to shake up the meta to make it so that it is possible for any set to potentially be considered good.

WHAT IF such combinations already exist, but you need to know which sets to combine? ;p

Then I would want a list built.
And funny enough, that is kind of what I was thinking. Essentially a system like Alchemy for armor set combinations.

My guess is that this would really narrow set choices. People would figure out which two sets worked the best in combination, then that would be meta, making it even harder to be successful with off meta builds.

... being an optimist, I want to say I would hope not, but ... you do make a good point.

I like this idea - we have how many sets? A few hundred by now - maybe 25% are “useful”. Allowing e.g all sets from Imperial Prison to count towards the 5 piece bonus… with the dominant 3 piece deciding which 5 piece bonus you get. If that makes sense??

The original idea I had was something closer to the alchemy system for gaining additional benefits from armor. The general idea is that the additional benefit is not directly seen, but needs to be discovered, just like you do with alchemy.
Imagine all 5 armor traits from 2 different sets being used to generate a new ability, which is unique to each set combination and if you use the idea of which set piece you are using into what generates the new ability, suddenly you have a reason to not only try new armor set combinations but also to try which piece of armor you are going to use in your build.
