Feel Kinda Stuck with Precise Weapon Trait and Thief Mundus

For my stamina-dependent medium armor builds I'm feeling a bit too compelled to use the Precise weapon trait and the Thief Mundus stone just to get some decent critical chance. I like the idea of "play how you want," but in the past year changes to how critical chance is acquired are having the opposite effect and its harder for me to consider any other weapon traits or mundus stones for stamina-dependent medium armor builds.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Yes. They need to bump up base crit chance. With CP2.0, they bumped up base weapon/spell damage, base mag/stam/health, base penetration, etc. But reduced base crit chance. So crit chance is so weak by default, especially compared to other base stats, that almost every build revolves around getting crit chance up to a reasonable level.

I thought the intent of this change was specifically to make Crit Chance LESS needed? Like, keep high-crit builds effective while also allowing high-damage builds to have a purpose.

Which specific change are you talking about? There were a few areas where crit chance got reduced or removed. Ex: CP 2.0 and the dexterity medium armor passive.

Even with crit damage capped at 2.25x normal damage, you are going to want to do 2.25x normal damage as much as possible. The cap will likely restrain some of the crazy DPS numbers that top groups get, but you are still going to want lots of crit chance to maximize your DPS.

If you can run 2-3 light pieces for extra critical chance. With the coming changes you may find yourself running a full light set for more crit and armor pen, allow you to focus more on other stats.

I was thinking about just running light armor too, but then I run into problems with sustain due to the cost of stamina abilities and roll dodge. Specifically, I lose these medium armor passives:

    Wind Walker
Increases your Stamina Recovery by 4% per piece of Medium Armor equipped. Reduces the Stamina cost of your abilities by 2% per piece of Medium Armor equipped.

    Athletics
Reduces the cost of Roll Dodge by 4% for each piece of Medium Armor equipped.

I am currently testing 3/4 mixes of light and medium on pts and you can manage to keep sustain. At least my Dunmer NB with Hissmir, but he is using mix of stam (hidden blade, lotus, arrow spray) & magicka (Killer's Blade, Draw Power) dmg skills and of course all armour glyph prismatic + all jewelry bloodthirsty with prismatic regen.

Glad to hear about managing to keep sustain. A few of my builds still run 2 five piece medium armor sets so I'll have to switch up one of those sets, but at least the hybridization should make it easier/more desirable to do so.

I prefer sharpened weapon trait over precise weapon trait, but then you need to make sure whatever armor sets you are using are skewed towards increasing your crit chance. The meta, itself, is the real issue because you need to have a crit build in order to be competitive with your DPS. The critical damage cap will help reduce the pressure to run a crit build somewhat, but because of the way they've chosen to approach the crit damage issue, I still think critical damage builds are going to be the way to go, so I'm guessing the meta is going to have a really narrow band of builds that are "competitive" once again.
