Miri doesn't seem to care when I loot thieves troves or visit the fence. Maybe if you steal more she moves from "I saw nothing" to losing rapport, but with my play she seems fine with occasional illegal acquisition. Bastian on the other hand is stupid about lawbreaking.

They can add companions in the same class people. Seeing how people are saying there are only another four slots left. Companions only come with 3 class skills in each line, mostly watered down player skills.

They could change up the skills making another (and more) companions very different to the current ones. Meaning we could have a lot more than just 6. A lot more.

I guess I'm in the minority but I don't mind the companion system. I like to play solo 99% of the time. Bastian is set up as a tank. I'm able to do things that I could never do before without getting a group together. I spent a little bit of gold in the guild traders to get him a full set of blue vigorous gear. When we are fighting, he keeps the boss's attention on himself and all I have to do is add a skill that heals both of us to my rotation. You're probably thinking I have to spam that heal constantly to keep him alive, but I don't. I use it when it comes around in the rotation. He keeps the boss off of me so that I can burn it down instead of having to kite it around trying to avoid AOEs. I can also get rid of adds if they get overwhelming, as long as he keeps the boss away from me. I still can't solo every dungeon but there are more now that I can solo than before. He's only at level 13 right now but I'm not in some huge hurry to level him up. Soloing dolmens with him gives him a lot of XP, and I pick up both fighters and mages guild quests every day. I haven't bothered with Mirri after I picked her up and did her initial quest, but I'll get to her eventually. Bastian, in the meantime, has become an asset.

i think a new companion would be cool, but then i think about all the work i had to put into mirri and bastion to get them fully levelled, including rapport...both of which were kind of a drag. so in the end, i'd rather not have another

If I had to wager, I would say they would go for the Man/Mer combo again. Maybe Nord/Altmer

And most likely a sorc and a templar since those are the only base game class left
Also if only one comes out, i think it will be a sorc as from my perspective its the most popular class of the 2(no official data, just what i think)

An altmer companion would be intolerable (no offence to those with high elf alts). They will just drop rapport for everything that you do.

To be honest, I assume more companions will make it into the game. However, after testing them it isn't something I'm excited about (and to be perfectly honest, my excitemente about this game has been going downhill for the past year or so).

So far I've only been using Bastian on my main to see what the deal was about, and I'm quiet unimpressed. I'm a competent player and can solo plenty of 4 player dungeons with no issue, even in veteran. I haven't tested Bastian in such dungeons, but seeing how well he handles WB or simple delve mobs and bosses, I'm not excited about bringing him along. Most of the time he seems to drive the boss away from the AOE attacks making him the equivalent of THAT player (you all know who I'm talking about) we all meet from time to time at WB. His battle perfomance is mediocre at best and he causes more problems than benefits, combat wise.

Aside from that, this feature is about the grindiest thing I've ever seen, and there is a reason I have only completed Thieves Guild questline on ONE character and Dark Brotherhood on two (the reason why it was completed on two was mainly because I completely forgot how grindy it was). The rapport system could have been an interesting implementation if it wasn't done the way it was. It's just awful in all possible ways. The only reason why I've been working on Bastian's rapport is to get his story because that's the part I enjoy about ESO (questing), but once I'm done with it, I'm done with companions altogether. I'll look up Mirri's in Google if I'm that intrigued about her, and so far I am not.

I can understand companions being no-no about stealing, murdering and such, which wouldn't really be much of a big deal if it wasn't because you can find really good things (like recipes, blueprints and motifs, something I collect and harvest to sell) in just about any container, including NPCs. However, Bastian's issue with cheese and Mirri's with bugs is just as dumb as it gets. The cheese thing is a bit more acceptable, and so far I've only had issues with it one single time during crafting writs. However, bugs are a very necessary resource if you need them for alchemy or fishing, which makes Mirri a bigger hassle than a help. I get that this is used as somewhat a personality trait, but far from making her interesting, it makes her an annoyance to keep around. I collect just about every bug I come across so Mirri is not someone I want to keep around. I totally get that it's just 1 point but considering how awful the rapport system is, loosing one single point feels way worse than it really is.

Rapport could have felt different if it was something that actually increased while we quested along with our companions, even if it was slow. That is, not through specific actions (like reading books and doing the incredibly boring dailies for the Guilds which I've already done for the achievement on said character), but through the fact we're questing with our companion doing what we actually WANT to do. Right now I have to keep in mind what Bastian likes so I remember to do them, and I have to grind the Mages Guild quest for him and him alone. it would have been so much better if there was a secret counter that added points by simply killing mobs (all enemy mobs, not just a very reduced, specific number of them), doing quests, delving and... well, in essence, playing the game. Trust is gained through shared adventures, not through me being this guy's servant and doing what he likes.

There is also the fact that leveling is very slow, which wouldn't be much of an issue if it wasn't because some skills require you doing specific things to level them. The Fighters' Guild skill line in normal characters is increased through multiple actions involving dark anchors and sending daedra back to where they came from. In companions it is reduced to the daily, which takes more time than it should as we have to destroy THREE anchors at a specific zone. The only reason why it isn't done as with the player character is so it takes longer to get to max level and also to keep us logging in everyday to do the daily.

Then there is also the fact these guys' gear can't be crafted, as far as I know, and drops are infrequent, to say the least. As with everything else in the game, green stuff is everywhere, blue is rare and purple is unicorn category. I did find a couple of purple jewelry pieces which I proceeded to sell because I find the coin more useful than Bastian.

Because everything I've said was not enough, if you want to take your companion with other characters you have to do the whole process FOR EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM. It does make sense that it would be developed like that, but considering the AWFUL-AWFUL grind I outright decided to pass. So right now I'm just working on Bastian's rapport to get his whole story and see what happens, and once that's accomplished I'm done with companions.

I know the game is competing with other games and it needs to keep us hooked for as long as possible, but at least in my case this awful grind in like every aspect of the game is causing the opposite effect; it's pushing me away from the game more and more. Grind to max out antiquities. Grind to complete your collections. Grind this. Grind that. I understand a game needs to have some grind, give us something to do, but this game is taking it way too far for my liking to the point I found myself doing a checklist of daily tasks instead of enjoying the roleplaying/questing aspects of the game, which is what I enjoyed. Seeing companions be yet another grindy feature that wants me to do tedious activities I do not want to do, in order to achieve some sort of goal... I'm not sure that's what a game is supposed to be.

So summarizing, there will definitely be more companions in the future, but I will pass. I don't need a talking pet with four recorded sentences and a not so exciting story to accompany me into a vanilla overland delve.

To finish this, there is another game I play; TheHunter Call of the Wild. We recently got a dog DLC. Dog levels up through the game's activities by doing what you were going to be doing anyways, which is be out there hunting stuff, tracking them and so on. You never have to step out of your path in order to level your dog hoping it will be useful in doing what you wanted to do to begin with, only to discover that the dog is useless at doing something so basic. The dog works superb, btw.

impossible achivements like "level to 20", "max rapport" and "dress all purple".

For what it's worth, the dressing in purple achievement only requires one item (although I thought the same when I first saw it). I just checked TTC for the cheapest purple piece I could find, which only set me back a few grand, and then equipped it on each companion in turn. So for that, at least, you can take a one-time expense and use it for all of your companions forever.

Also, a friend and I have had great success duoing nDSA with our companions during exp boost events. It takes about an hour to clear and isn't hard at all, and with the event exp boost and exp scrolls from daily logins, the companions get a pretty massive amount of exp. My friend's Bastian went from 1-11 in one run, and my companions were picking up about 2 levels per run in the level 15+ range.

In 2022 we will also get a romance system which should be introduce in this year but was delayed. Later they will add gold gear too.

I hope we get a deeper friendship system along side it so that there are further story quests available for those of us who's characters aren't interested in romancing either companion. None of my characters would romance either of them, though they'd all be good friends with Mirri. (None of them really trust Bastian. My thieves will behave in front of him, but they keep him at a distance.)

Gotta love how companions are suppose to be for newer players as they are pretty much usesless in everything competitive or not allowed at all, yet are extremely difficult to level up, obtain gear for and even unlock in the first place. Nothing about them is intuitive for newer players and any new player that uses a companion will be quickly met with a giant slap in the face of an experience grind just so they can even start to use the 1 utlimate available to them.

Their skills are half baked, the skill choice is minimal, the gear is boring and does nothing but statistical increases rather than the cool effects and choice we get with player armor, the UI sucks, the rapport system is awful, their dialogue is too limited and gets stale fast, they have no inventory, their unlock quests are in the middle of nowhere instead of through a more obvious avenue like the Fighter's/Mage guild, they're copy/pasta of base classes, but a fraction of the choice, and their healing/dps/tanking potential is useless for an overworld that is already extremely easy.

Companions are an oxymoron in battle with itself about who it's actually for..

All that being said, it's better than nothing when you're in overland, so I was expecting a new one to choose from isntead of only NB and DK.. there is 6 classes, at this rate, we won't see a choice for every class and possibly unique ones until another 7 years. Don't even get started on races..

But hey, thanks ZOS, for selling a chapter mechanic that a fraction of your playerbase enjoys, yet everyone agrees is completely flawed. :)

The rapport loss is a small price to pay. But would create a more interesting immersion with all the companions bickering or cheering on depending on what gets them on their good side or bad side.. I actually think that would make dungeons alot more exciting with all the interactions and chatter

I have no problem with companions being weak, but when someone tells me they are an RP thing, I want to scream! 😭 I mean they have no proper dialogues (talk doesn't feel like a conversation, feels more like a voice assistant in the smartphone), they don't react on what's going on in the main quest of their own chapter, and even no emotes playing despite it was shown in the trailers! If you show customers something, then you should provide them with it after purchaising!

Indeed but when some players are doing all by themselves when in a group (runners, or pledge runners) the group is inexistant. Beeing in a group does not mean having to accept all the behaviors of some. If you say immediatly when in the group, I am on quest, up to them to say oh sorry i can not do that, i want to rush. I can leave and i would prefer eventually, if i was not under the penalty timer by doing this.
In one of my last instance, i had to pass a Master chest because the one healer was leading and running soloing bosses because his /her number of CP (over 2K) was allowing him/her to do that.

And i know the difference, as i do a lot with my guild. They are helpful and all friendly, helping any time you ask.

I'm a casual solo player. I found Companions to be utterly useless. They are just talking pets with impossible achivements like "level to 20", "max rapport" and "dress all purple".

I hope Companions will become something more than talking pets. I soloed FG1 with Bastian, and after that soloed it without him. When I did it alone, it was... easier and quicker - I didn't have to heal and res. Bastian can only survive in delves and public dungeons - oh well, I can do them alone. Craglorn delves, group dungeons? He's just always dead.

I hope new Companions will not have weird habits. Look, why do I have to care for insane, annoying things like "don't harvest torchbugs"?

I hope new Companions will be easier to level - both combat and rapport. Now it is just impossible. I unlocked Bastian on the very first day he appeared. I always travel with him. And what's the outcome? He's level 12. Twelve! It will take me forever to make him level 20. And no, I don't have time to do Craglorn 24/7 to grind his level. Rapport? It seems not to move at all. And no, I don't have time to do Mages Guild dailies every day - I have a ton of things to do in ESO. And I can only play for about 1-1,5 hours a day!

I found that companions if you use them as force multipliers work great, but if you expect them to replace players suck.

As I set Derpstien as tank he failed utterly at start, but as I leveled him and got more skills for him and actually put some thought which are useful, he became good at tanking dungeon bosses when I solo them.
He does die now and then, but actually rarely (today I soloed 3 different dungeons with him and he only dies at one boss and that when boss was below 10% health)

Mirri is set as healer and is great on my main since 95% of time she does enough heals I can ignore self healing and just concentrate on dps-ing.

but I don't expect neither of them to do well, I just expect them to do what they are programed to do and that's it.

(Fun fact: both of them have decent self heal skill which does decent job of keeping them alive)

Also I found out that leveling them is a chore but nowhere near as bad as I've expected it.

and rapport is... well, it's literal guide dang it part <_< but if you check what gives rapport its faster.

Although I'd like them more if ZOS copied thing or two from DDO's hirelings, those were a mess, but had couple of features that made them more manageable than ESO comp...
