Yet ANOTHER companion bug

So here’s another companion bug I’ve found. Doing dailies isn’t opening up the Companion’s skill line.
I’ve done 3 MG dailies so far and my companion’s skill line still hasn’t been unlocked. It still says “Complete a Mages Guild daily quest to unlock this skill line”
Seriously!!! WHAT IS GOING ON

Which mages guild daily are you doing? The ones from the mages guild that send you to a base game public dungeon to retrieve a treasure from the skill point boss room will count. Make sure the companion is active and with you when you cash in the quest.

Yep I’ve done that. I’m in AD so I’m doing the quest given by the guy in Elden Root. The companion is active and it’s the correct daily. But when I turn it in, no rapport increase and no skill line unlock.

Maybe it’s not working bc I’ve maxed out MG already?

I maxed MG well before I unlocked it on the two companions. That shouldn't be the issue unless this has come up with the recent patch. Nobody else is talking about this bug so I'm wondering if you may be doing (or not doing) something specific to trigger it. Do you have the ability to attempt to unlock the guild line on another toon? Or try the other companion?

So this is what I do
1) joined MG (I have done no quests in the quest line)
2) already got 10 MG
3) went to Elden Root and picked up daily quest with companion active.
4. Did MG daily
5. Turned in quest with companion active.
6. Quest resolves and no rapport increase and skill line is still locked

Just to confirm, you're doing the quest provided by Alvur Baren in the Elden Root mages guild? The quest name will be Madness in [zone name] and send you to the public dungeon in that named zone to retrieve a Sheogorath themed treasure.

Yep that’s the one. I just did one retrieving something from The Vile Manse in Reapers March.
I did one 2 days ago and one yesterday and had the same result. No rapport increase and no skill unlock

I did one 2 days ago and one yesterday and had the same result. No rapport increase and no skill unlock

If you're using Mirri, there wouldn't be a rapport increase, though you would get rapport if you're using Bastian. Mirri prefers the Fighter's guild.

Have you tried unlocking the other guild skill lines, Fighter's Guild and Undaunted? If you haven't, try those to see if the problem persists through all unlocks or if it's isolated to just the Mages Guild. Also try unlocking the Mages Guild on an alt to see if the issue is isolated to the specific character and not your entire account.

So I’ve done Undaunted. However that unlocked before I hit max level on undaunted.

While the MG line was unlocked on the companion I do not use it still has room to level the line. I went to ER and picked up the quest there since that is where OP went. When I turned in the quest after completion I verified both MG level and rapport. Turned in the quest and checked MG level and rapport again and both increased as expected.

Of note, it does not matter which alliance the character is in they can go to the mage guild in any of the alliances that grant the daily quest. It is the same quest. I mention this since the one in ER is such a pain to get to.

So the issue was the fact that on my certain toon, I was maxed out on MG and was receiving no Reputation with the Mg. So that wasn’t triggering the unlock. I went to another room and that triggered it. So if you have maxed out MG and you haven’t unlocked the skill line, you won’t be able to unless you make another toon

There are all sorts of things that could have caused it, too many variables that might lock you out, but at least the issue is solved now. Since you have it unlocked now, it might be worth checking to see if your main can advance the skill line or if it just won't recognize it at all on that toon. Either way, glad that worked out for you.
