Soon 2022. The world saw Unreal Engine 5, nanites, RTX and many other breakthrough technologies!
Don't you think it's time to start improving texture quality for ESO.
There are already many AI-based image quality enhancers/upscalers out there.

I don't personally need them to spend time and money on that sort of thing.

Nobody will force you to use these improvements. You can play with minimal graphics settings.

It does not seem ESO is at a point that Zenimax needs to rework the entire game to work on a different engine. Even shy of that they have been using better designs with newer zones. So there are better priorities Zenimax can focus on.

It's not about whether we would use it or not, and rather the fact that there is a better use of their time and resources

if they use AI-based image upscaling it won't cost a lot of resources

I like the way the game looks. Every upgrade and restoration I know always destroyed the games. Most of the time games get darker and with less color. Also with bigger textures I'll need a better computer to run something useless.

oh! I see your idea now. That seems safer. I don't like the idea of a visual change. In this days it might result in less color.

I am happy with current visuals. Maybe when I can actually buy a ps5.

The game is plenty big. Frankly, I'd quite like to see some TLC given to the existing parts of the game - like graphic enhancements for the base game zones. I'd rather see that than new DLC dungeons or trials to add to my ignore list.

MMORPGs are never big enough to cease adding new content. Players are more interested in playing new content than playing the same content over and over. A big part of the reason ESO is as successful as it is is due to the regular addition of content. Dressing up the old content is boring and does not do near as much to keep players interest.

Players left in droves when Zenimax ceased adding new content because they were focused on porting the game to consoles. I think Zenimax learned their lesson there.

Doing texture updates is not the hassle it once was. Many people do this as a hobby all by themselves. IMO it's well worth the time.

if ZOS don't want to do it themselves, give the modders all necessary permissions and tools need to replace all textures.

I'm mostly fine with the visuals, but I find it slightly hard to ignore some of the absurdly low-res and inconsistent textures in some places. Some textures are pretty low-res but are used right next to more high-res textures (sometimes on seemingly the SAME model???). There's also some textures that are clearly stretched versions of textures they're reusing from other models.

I know it's nit-picky since it doesn't really matter overall, but I wish they'd go back and fix minor stuff like this. It's pretty jarring if you play in first-person (I'm 3rd person 90% of the time). Blackwood seems to be the best expansion texture-wise. I've only traveled through Leyawiin a few times but I haven't noticed any jarring inconsistent low-res textures anywhere (minus reused assets like the thing holding the fire at wayshrines,). The textures on buildings look very crisp, and I'd argue it's the best use of the game's art style to date. I was really impressed by the daedric temples too.

Here's some of the inconsistent textures in other zones, though:

    Vvardenfell:

    Summerset:

Not too bad, but it's pretty clear that those textures on this one corner of a building are inconsistent in resolution and stretched in some places. It's the case with all of the buildings of this style in Summerset.

    Northern Elsweyr:

    nRTejTs.png
Notice how the floor of the wayshrine is the same texture as the rest of the ground in Rimmen, but scaled up to the point that it's blurry. Those textures aren't meant to just be resized like that, ZOS!

Southern Elsweyr has the absolute worst examples of this, but I can't grab pictures since I don't have ESO Plus currently. Many of the cliffs and boulders are made of what seem to be smaller rocks that were scaled up with no concern for texture resolution. So, they are VERY blurry even from a distance.

    Blackwood for comparison:

    78axZm7.png

They absolutely nailed it with the textures in Leyawiin.

Again, this doesn't really matter in general, but it's something that would be nice since it would make the game look much better in some places where the poor texture resolution is very obvious.

The base game could certainly do with some love.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

It is highly doubtful Zenimax will release the related coding for their game to make this possible. I doubt any major MMORPG title would permit this.

Texture pipelines are one of biggest culprits for ESO performance issues. ZOS has tried a couple of different fixes, with varying levels of success.

If the engineers at ZOS manage some sort of breakthrough, I'm sure we'll se a lot better textures.
