Why is the performance getting worse every patch?

Seems like every patch the performance gets worse and there are even more bugs than the last patch. Its gotten to the point where people are dreading patches because of the deteriorating in-game performance. Shouldn't the performance get better every patch and the bugs everyone experiences get fixed instead?

Reduced server capacity and little to no effort to fix known bugs. It seems pretty obvious at this point.

What's truly egregious, at least in my opinion, is how we are paying full price for chapters while getting less and less content for our money, and we know how whales spend in this game.
All that money coming in, you'd think a bit would be put back into the game, such as improving server structure and capacity, bug fixes, as well as just having more content, not less.

We are being milked, while things crumble around us.

No two ways to look at it.

That's not saying you can't enjoy the game. Doing over world content or crafting, I'm sure the game is still very enjoyable. Doing anything else though, mainly PvP or trials, and that's where the cracks begin to show.

Never have I played a game where things get worse as time goes on. Usually processes get refined and smoothed.
ESO is a first in that case.

The more they tweak the existing code, the more bugs and dysfunction they introduce. If you take a long power cord and keep cutting it in various places and then splicing it together over and over again, is it going to work better than an intact power cord?

The only real solution would be to recode everything from scratch. Unfortunately, I don't think ZOS is willing to invest that much into an aging game.

If that was true it would be the case for every game but this doesnt happen in every game or mmo. Interestingly the game play is great on ps5 now.

Anyone who says this either has a bad memory or hasn't been around too long.

The worst for me was after Morrowind was released.
-Couldnt really make a new character because there was 30 seconds lag scrolling through hair styles etc.
-Couldn't group. Me and my friends would try and group and it failed every time.
-Couldnt enter Cyrodiil. It would just hang on either joining queue or entering campaign.
-Could kind of fish. But every 5th fish it would lag out and you'd catch nothing.

Haven't had any real performance issues this entire year on my end. I can definitely say Elsweyr and Greymoor gave me a lot of perfomance issues though.

Yeah, I do feel like they just haven't bothered investing much back into the game. It would have been nice to have better performance and base game improvements in my opinion.

We call this "iphone'ing" it. - Suddenly your Iphone or Samsung or what have you doesn't seem to perform as well as it used to. You go to look for a new one. Conveniently, they just released a new version. That new version will magically run good for about 2 years, until suddenly it doesn't. But that's ok! We have another new version for you to upgrade to!

In our case, it's Xbox. Myself, my GF, and 2 of our kids play.

Across a 60+ game library, most of which online multiplayer play or heavy/complex graphical content etc. 4 Xbox's. 4 accounts. Premium internet. Hardwired to the consoles etc. etc. - ESO is the only game having issues. Even 7DtD runs better.

Server performance - yeah, bugs - surely. But I wish every update would be as "unplayable" as WF that brought 20+fps for a lot of people. That's like the first performance boosting patch since forever.
When are we getting new servers? Or is that not happening now?

New servers won't affect performance in any way as was already said thousands of times, maybe better maintenance times on pceu at the very best.

We got new microsoft servers that day they took all platforms offline at the same time, a couple months ago. They stated previously that we would not see any performance improvements with the new servers, so there was no reason for them to announce anything.

You should try EU server sometimes, you would feel your NA server is the best server in the world.

The more proc sets used during content or in PVP the more it impacts the server.

    Ever been to cyrodiil?

Ever ran the same trial as 9 other trials groups on the same evening?

That assumption couldn't be more off base. Performance issues are omitted, not denied, and it's public knowledge that attempts were made to address it. Via things like "the year of performance". Facts. Actual facts.

Outside of Cyrodiil and competitive PvE there's some truth in that, whether you say it seriously or not, and you can also throw in the part played by some addons in the case of PC players.

However, there are very real performance issues still for some players especially in those particular areas of the game and I fully support those players suffering in that way. Where I disagree is with those who make silly claims such as ZO$ not caring for their customers, ZO$ only being interested in the Crown Store etc. Sometimes the arguments aren't helped by the way people present them, but I'm in no doubt that there are real issues for some players and that they are largely server-side. I do believe that ZOS take them seriously and are continually working on them. People easily miss the likelihood that a lot of the skill and other changes being introduced which they don't like are motivated by a desire to improve performance.

Nonetheless, the fact is that performance has got better for some players in recent times, not worse, and some players haven't had any performance issues in the first place. I hope the problems that still bedevil some players can be resolved.
