Mudball Opt out/Total removal, years overdue

This troll toy exists for no other reason than to be abused to harrass people [snip]. I just had to file full harrassment reports [snip] when they were harrassing with it and threw childish insults when asked nicely to stop.

This is why we can't have nice things, tolerance for this kind of behavior needs to end, completely, and like, years ago. we need real GMs who will punish harrassment. and a way to block troll toys entirely.

Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

Harassment, especially as defined by game rules enforced by GMs consists of any un necessary annoying behavior perpetrated on another player that does not stop when asked to stop.

If being mudballed without end annoys me, as it would any normal person, and it is not stopped when I ask, it is harassment.

Why do I need to spell this out? [snip]

So, because I am not bothered by receiving mudballs in-game, I am not normal now? That seems (more than) a bit insinuating.

    It doesn't happen that often.

The other day I kept killing a guy in Cropsford; after the second time he came back and threw a mudball at me. It was funny.

Mudballs themselves are not evil. it is the fact there is no way to "opt out" making yourself un mudballable, and that people misuse it to harrass others that is evil.

So you feel harassed.. Fair enough, no one should be.. But a total removal of an item, just because you dont like it? That's rather silly

Oh lord sounds like you may have raided with me lmao. I mudball people all the time, all in good jest of course. It's a harmless thing in game. if you're randomly being pelted, just leave. Or say something to whoever is bothering you with "please stop it, it is annoying me." If you're a jerk about it to people who mudball it, chances are they won't stop.

Ideally mudballs would not be removed, but anyone could choose to make themselves not a valid target for them.

However ZOS track record is hardly great on this kind of thing so I'm afraid I'd be lucky if they even bothered with half measures.

There are still game breaking bugs that have been here since one Tamriel. [snip]

Lately it does not happen to me anymore but sometimes some random thing throws a mudball at me when I am looking into my inventory and runs away quickly before I can spot who it was.
Not only that it is a childish behaviour but also annoying, then running away like a coward.
OP: I wish mudballing was removed as well,I did never understand how people can find something like that funny or expect other to actually find it funny.

Someone who is angry at the fact ZOS has done nothing to address something in game that has been abused for years on end, not to mention zero moderation or GM presence to remove trolls, can be a very nice person, and most of the time I am.

I have every right to be angry now on this topic. and if you are not part of the problem, then I am not angry at you.

If you've asked the person to stop, told them that you consider it harassing and yet they continue, that's considered harassment by ZOS. If you feel strongly about it, it's probably a good idea to report the player in question.

When you open the chest while I'm killing the mobs, you have earned getting mudballed and cherry-blossomed. (Once.)

Otherwise I neither see the appeal of mudballing people, nor the reason to get upset about it. As with all trolls, don't feed them and they go away.

I believe they've made it so you can't be mballed at the outfit stations any longer, after a few 3-day bans to a few trolls. But if they are trolling you other places, just report as necessary. You're correct, it's a pvp troll mechanic in pve. Otherwise they would only work on npcs. But just screenshot, report, and move on. If they follow you around trolling you, Z has an app for that.

My elf's been known to throw cherry blossoms, but never ever a mud ball unless it is directly associated with the appropriate festival quest.

I wouldn't mind if they were completely disabled except during that event. Outside that event, I consider them to be rude and mildly annoying.

I also wouldn't mind OP's idea about opting out of being a valid target.

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things in game though. Well below dueling in crafting areas for example.

The toy exists because it's a homage to the Mudball Merriment New Life quest. It can be misused, but hyperbole about its intended purpose isn't necessarily helpful.

I do support a toggle for this and other multi-player interactive emotes. My grumpy Altmer doesn't want to be showered in cherry blossoms!

Might as well throw in cherry blossoms, snowballs, pies, murderous strikes, and other mementos that effect other people if we're going with your idea, OP. I personally just ignore them or find them in the crowd and give them a taste of their own medicine. Would be cool if we could dodge the mudball coming in as if it was a projectile attack. Then we could have proper mudball and snowball duels!

They should really give us a toggle for these because not everyone appreciates this kind of "fun".

I stopped hanging out with a friend because every single time I was around him it was nonstop pelting me with cherry blossoms, even after I asked him to stop. It's irritating, like having a gnat flying around your head.

You remove my mudballs, I will be very angry.
I use mudballs with my dungeon crew in good faith.
The answer to this is not removing things from people who actually use them for good and fun, the answer is to report the harassment. Constantly, with screenshots and names. Not begrudge others who are having fun.

I have one particular player that pelts all my toons with that squawking bird thing, don’t know what it’s called, when I’m doing daily crafting writs. You know, the memento that makes your toons look scared. Not all the time, not every day, but almost every time I see them it happens. Not just once or twice, but multiple times on multiple toons. I’m only on each toon for a minute or more so it’s really excessive if you put it in that perspective.

I posted something similar to your thread OP, a while back, but I was told that an occasional hit was not a big deal like you are being told. I agree with you completely.

I wish this issue would be taken seriously. ZOS enables bullies to harass other players with these items. I don’t pay a monthly subscription to get harassed repeatedly in a game.

Repeated use after you ask them to stop is already against the TOS afaik, and should be reported.

Mudballs themselves however are NOT harassment. I do think it's wrong though to act as though anyone using it is an abuser. It's very bad to stereotype people to be of such low character just because they enjoy something you do not. Mudballs exist to prank people and have fun, not to abuse. And there are many people who find joy in them in a way that is appropriate.

I do support a toggle though just like reject duel. It should count for achievement credit still, but not display the mudball effect on the character or bother the person being mudballed at all.
