[SUGGESTION] NA / EU switching

Could you make it easier on us, players, to switch between the servers? I mean, there are just TWO of them (ASOC - Asia and Oceania - will never be created, obviously). Change the way one switches between NA and EU and that's that.

A petty thing, but would be great.

you can play on both, this is actually what many do. Much better than switching, as you can run 18 completely new characters.

That would mean database changes, and could destroy accounts. It is fine as it is.

I think the posts below have it right that OP merely wants a means to swap from one server to the other (same platform) without having to log out and back in again.

It is a reasonable request. The only possible issues I can think of is regionally located gateway servers and the coding required to create a connection between the two servers. It sounds simple enough but I have no idea how this is actually settup so it could be straight forward or complicated.

This post is edit since I initially misunderstood the request being made.

I wonder if the OP's point has been misunderstood?

I suspect that he means why can't we for example log into the NA server and then switch to our characters on the EU server without having to exit back to the launcher and input our username and password again.

If that is what the OP means, I couldn't agree more! All it would take is a server selection tab on the character selection screen.

how could this be realized technically?
You had to sync both servers in realtime.

Taking in account the high amount of data this is impossible, as a full sync would take several hours.

I'm not sure you've got the point. It's not about switching characters between servers, it's about playing different characters on each server as plenty of people do at present, myself included. At the moment if I'm logged into one of my characters on the EU server then in order to play one of my characters on the NA server I have to log out to the launcher (either by quitting the game and relaunching it or by logging out to the character screen and hitting "Back") and input my username and password again after switching the server selection. All of that could be done from the character screen if there was a server selection tab on that screen.

I wondered myself if that was what the OP meant, as I started reading this thread. Glad I read all the way down instead of posting!

Just to clarify, the benefit of having a server selection tab on the character screen is that you wouldn't have to go through the rigmarole of entering your username and password again as you wouldn't have left the program if you just log out on EU to the character screen and log in from there to NA.

Also, I should stress that I am relating this to PC, I've no idea how it all works on console when changing servers. Maybe it's the same, I wouldn't know.

On Steam you still have to exit out of the character selection, but you don't have to input anything, you just switch the EU/NA toggle and click Play or whatever the button says and it takes you to the character screen.

They'd have to have a "keep me logged in option" to do that without steam, which seems like it should be easy, but may have unintended consequences depending on how it all works under the hood. It's possible their implementation is the way it is to avoid the password ever being saved on the computer.

Ok, so let me tell you what I want in a picture: This rectangle.
Make it simple - you click on the 'SERVER(EU)' and change to 'SERVER(NA)'.
There are JUST TWO servers. The need to log in remains. You won't need to click on a tiny, barely clickable dot.

    Edit: added after Sylvermynx's comment

This, as there is no picture for us to see.

Also, it may not be as simple as there are just two servers. The gateway server may be different and more importantly, we know the two servers are not connected. As such it may not be a simple change.

By gateway server, there is one server used for us to log into the game and it tends to be separate. Sometimes it will serve multiple gaming servers but considering Zenimax has two different regions is may not be. Still, the bigger issue is the two servers are not connected.

I see, I did not get the point indeed. Likely because on xbox you do not have to enter the password, as the game is bound to the currently active xbox account.
You DO have to go back from character screen to login screen, but without the need to enter a password this is no big issue.
Only annoying part is, that the music on the login-screen is MUCH louder, so I meanwhile switch off my headphone when I switch.

You have to logout from one server location, then back in to a different physical location. They don't have one central login server location that redirects. They could implement it,but could be more latency, and alot more costly for new equiptment.
