Thinking of making a new character, what is fun?

So far I have one character of each class and usually, I have only bothered to make a new character when a new class comes out. I already have myself a meta build dps (for both mag and stam) a tank and a healer. So I am looking for something different that would be worth the effort of rolling a new character for. Any fun builds?

If you are bored of standard builds, make a hybrid.

The only problem is that choices and what is "best" will be heavily dependent on you, and your playstyle.

But if you have loads of junk gear laying around like me (and over 190 legendary staves) from META shifts and other "balancing", then you can experiment as much as you want esp. for PvP builds.

Yeah, agree with that - make Hybrid, for example dunmer NB that is using weapons but with some magic morphs. Selection of skills and sets is far more amusing than chasing another quasimeta build ;)

My interest in ESO was renewed when I decided to make a really bizarre match up and just went with it.

So I made a high elf stamina sorcerer and built the character into a hybrid healer/bow build. Eventually it became super fun to craft a little look and personality to the character. He's a hunter/shaman now!

It's kind of like crafting your own character for a tabletop rpg if that makes any sense. It's really fun to use the game's tools to make something you feel attached to.

Just try some odd comboes. I made a redguard bow DK and it turned out really fun. Tons of poison skills and weapon skills and it all just kind of fit.

Just try stuff: except for vet dlc dungeons and trials it doesn't really matter that much if you are 5% off some imaginary meta, and quite often other combos work well anyway. I've got templar tanks, DK healers, whatever.

In PVP it's also the case that not being a cut and paste actually helps, because everyone has fought 400 identical alcast builds in the same gear with the same skillbar.

Now I want to make the most absurd out of this world pvp build ever, but sadly I think I need more experience with the new CP system first.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

In fact you can just solo everything else. I'll link my OP stam DK solo build, in case that interests you. A bit out of date - I use DK standard on the back bar now for one thing - but you get the idea:

Fun is in the eye of the beholder. Playing a melee magblade (or stamblade) in PvP is fun. Speed is fun. Stamsorcs are fun. Leaping people with a DK is fun. Templars are fun, because their toolkit is so straightforward. Wardens are IMO boring. Haven't tried necros.

I prefer a balanced build. Bear in mind I mostly PvP, so that's where this is coming from. Situational skills, such as Cloak, Streak, an execute, an AOE, a spammable, a gap closer, a single DOT are fun, because their use depends on, well, the situation. You have to pay attention to what's going on around you. This is for example why I like templar - it's toolkit covers everything - and I loathe magden. The latter has too many buff skills that simply need to be refreshed independent of the situation.

Like I said, fun is in the eye of the beholder. If you were raised in PvE and you find DD rotations fun, that's probably the polar opposite to what I do.

PC EU: Magblade (PvP main), DK (PvE Tank), Sorc (PvP and PvE), Magden (PvE Healer), Magplar (PvP and PvE DD), Arcanist (PvE DD)
PC NA: Magblade (PvP and PvE every role)

Necro you need to keep your skeleton bois up and rolling, but the gameplay is pretty fun for both magicka and stam. Also mag necros can go full frost now.

Can they? Necro doesn't get a bonus to frost damage like warden, and isn't mystic siphon pretty important for dps, as well as the skelly mage being shock too, blastbones is flame..

How can magcro go full frost when the only skills that deal frost damage are boneyard and colossus? Their main burst skill is flame and is boosted by lightning staves.

A fun solo build is rolling a vampire magDK, equipping Blood for Blood as the spammable, Sated Fury as a burst heal, and using the Ring of the Pale Order to fuel it all. Burn them all, get healed for doing so, and have close to infinite sustain thanks to the ring fueling BfB. Not very group friendly but it's very fun for solo arenas and PvP duels.

I haven't seen anyone suggest is a thief/ninja build focused on stealth, heists and blade of woe. It's a fun distraction and can be profitable if you get good at stealing.
