DLC Tutorials

Will we ever be able to play the tutorials from the previous DLCs? It seems like a missed opportunity and honestly a weird decision to have chosen to remove the previous available tutorials, when they added so much in terms of context and lore to the beginning of the questlines. Now players simply get dropped into the zones without any previous explanation or continuity.
I really hope ZOS considers adding the old tutorials back, and makes it possible for a single character to complete them all.

I guess recent tutorial zone is already a straight no towards old tutorials. It's unfortunate as people asked for ability to choose one and not a zone with teleportation pads in the end but seems like they can't grasp the core of complaint here and marker this as "done".

I’m sad to have lost them all. It took some management to be able to play the one you wanted but it was doable. Now it’s just a really bland, disconnected, nothing tutorial - not one I’ll ever play through again.

The only one I felt was good was Vvardenfell, being a prisoner on the boat was interesting. Personally I found Elsweyr and Summerset instantly forgettable.

Starting the base game dlcs without opening with the Wailing Prison is just absurd. They have proper stories (npc dialogue and notes on the islands) about you mysteriously turning up on the beach that make no sense if you don't open with that mission.

At the moment it seems unlikely but the way the tutorial and the start of the game works has been changed so many times (in addition to adding new tutorials) that I wouldn't rule it out.

It looks like whichever team at ZOS designed the new tutorial didn't fully understand why players were asking to choose where they start, or didn't understand that the zone tutorials aren't just about teaching the basics of combat but also acted as an introduction to the story. They've given us a tutorial and then a choice of starting maps, which is in a sense what players have been asking for since Morrowind was released, but narratively it's missing a significant chunk and makes little sense.

How was it possible to play the one you want, short of only buying that chapter? As far as I know once you had a more recent chapter all the previous tutorials were inaccessible.

For me it's not about getting my favourite tutorial but the one that makes the most sense for the character. I hated having to do the Vvardenfell tutorial on my warden, even though I like the story, because she's a breton and I wanted to start with Coldharbour and the Daggerfall Covenant, so she apparently got a boat to Vvardenfell from somewhere, got attacked by pirates, defeated them and escaped, finally made it to Vvardenfell and then immediately left again to go all the way back home, which makes no sense at all. The only way I could make it fit was to pretend it had never happened, which I hated doing.

I actually deleted and restarted her so I could do the Greymoor tutorial instead, which made much more sense, especially since the backstory I'd made up for her is that she travelled across Highrock and into Skyrim to learn from the Wyrds and some of the Reach clans. The ideal for me would have been to pick up the main quest in Solitude, but apparently it's not available there so she took a boat to Wayrest and started it there.

ESO does a lot of things right but what they definitely do worst is the introduction for new players. It was already quite confusing to start at the newest chapter as new player who just wanted to start in a starter zone with some simple introductions and begin the main quest. It must be so frustrating to start out as a new player and have no idea what to choose in this tutorial. Luckily I stood by so why I am caring is because every time I have gotten a friend a family member to join the game they quit after day or two. Every time it has been because the game is to overwhelming and even though I have tried to help them out they ending up taking some random prologue quest and destroying their first experience.

How can it be so hard to let people choose their own tutorial and make a specific beginner friendly option for new players with a bit more guidance through the first part of the game. The new tutorial has definitely not done anything better for neither new or experienced players.

Just by running different accounts with different chapters and being careful with the upgrades.

The latest tutorial area is quite nice, and explains all the basics, and gives you 'decent' starting gear.

    This I like!

I always want to do the old Coldharbour quest line (just feels right) so I select the starting zone for that line. A nice cut scene plays, but does not explain what is actually going on. Nothing explaining The Prophet, Lyris, who they are and why you should care.

Half way there ZOS! Just gotta push it a little further!

I really wish they'd bring us the ability to choose which tutorial to play. I badly miss the old ones

The idea that I was thinking of, before the Balfiera tutorial was dropped, was for them to go ahead with putting people into the newest dlc tutorial... but to also have quest givers similar to the "hooded figure" that let's you play the original tutorial.

For example, maybe on the docks of each major alliance city could be someone offering to take you on their ship for some lucrative quest... and when you accept you end up being captured by slavers and taken to firemoth...

I don't actually remember the tutorial for Summerset, Elseweyr or Graymoor because I didn't actually play any of them. I skipped tutorial when I played them on PTS, now that I have them I wish I could actually play them.

I want this too, but I am at least happy that some version of the original "Wailing Prison" tutorial is available... I'm also a little happy about the part of the Balfiera tutorial where we are presented with tables displaying each weapon type... because I remember the wailing prison having that back in beta.

For some reason my edit button isn't showing up today.

I wish we could go back to Balfiera and just do all of them. I just recently created a new character after Blackwood came out and WOW to Balfiera. It’s exquisitely done and a waste that I can’t go back to it to start my other prologues from there.

It should be a personal instance where only I can be there, like my own personal space to choose my adventures before I hop into the world. Such a missed opportunity.

Having just created a new character and played the new tutorial, I was shocked with what I found... and think it's a good idea actually. I always found it odd that, just because you come out with a new DLC doesn't mean that a new player wants to start there. I think this new tutorial is good because it offers players a CHOICE of where they want to start. I chose Blackwood, not because I want to start the Blackwood storyline, but because I wanted to collect my companions first before venturing out into the world. On new characters, I also like to go to Vulkhel Guard and joing Mages, Fighters and Undaunted guilds right away and then I'll zone hop to unlock all the wayshrines. When all that's done, I'll go back and start the "Hooded Figure" quest so I can kick off the MSQ of the game... and simultaneously complete the AD alliance, Mages and Fighters guild quests as I progress through the AD zones. After that, I'll jump into some DLC content, or do the Silver/Gold alliance quests.

The idea with Balfiera is cool but being dropped in random point with NPC yelling at you "The Ivory Brigade has need of you!" is sooooooooo silly. I've played Vvardenfell and Elsweyr prologues and seriously I feel robbed that I won't be able to experiance Summerset and Greymoor ones on my alts. I really liked those background intro's.

Balfiera is a slight improvement. I recently started a new DC toon and went through that tutorial and selected Stros M’Kai. Did the quests there, got to Daggerfall, got the Benefactor quest, went to Coldharbour, did that then ended up...in Stros M’Kai again.

IMO That's the big problem with the new tutorial. The tutorial itself is fine, and I like that it leaves where you came from and why ambiguous and lets you choose where you go, the problem is what happens after that.

For the base game areas the simple fix would be to drop you in the starter city where you can pick up the Coldharbour quest (which then drops you on your alliances island). For the chapters it's more complicated, but I think re-working their tutorials to be a short introductory quest like Coldharbour is now and starting you off there would be a good solution.
