Is Magicka Detonation useful for anything but a specific build?

I am looking for new skills to unlock and level and decided to finally grab this one and it seems pointless to the most pointless degree. If I don't run a full bomber build this skill serves no purpose does it.

In addition to bombers, I've seen 1vXers run Proxy Detonation, as well. So unless you're either of those, or doing coordinated group PvP, it's probably not much help for you.

Depends on class and goal with the skill. If its to keep people away from you in PvP or make them more predictable, then yes. Otherwise it's not very good IMO unless you have no other options or want to use it for a burst build.

Proxy requires either a lot of delayed damage to go off at the same time or else a lot of people stacked to kill. You see a lot of ball groups with this skill, as they can all go boom at the same time, or bombers use it on fat stacks of enemies. A solo person who isn't a bomber will have a relatively small proxy explosion.

It is a good skill to use in pvp and pve if you're hitting lots of targets, otherwise no.

It is standard use in PVP for organised groups.

Skyreach and battlegrounds, it wrecks. I don't think you should build entirely for it because its not always most useful, but I've been hit for 13k+ before

in pvp its a bomber skill, also trains uses em in their rotation.

Funnily enough bc of the scaling buff, this can be used in PvE but needs at least 3 targets or it isn't worth

Its used in coordinated group pvp. Having 12 proxys go off at the same time is a lot of damage

I use it in my Dark-Sorc character.

Innevitable detonation + Haunting Curse + Crystal Blast instant

Easy rotation, and my OCD appreciates the theme.

It would be cool if the skill does a second thing.

What if proximity detonation did a second thing if it doesn't hit any targets. Like remove player health instead and convert it into a damage shield.

What if inevitable detonation did a second thing like just having it slotted makes the player explode when they die.

Just something unique and fun to play with that makes the skill less niche. Right now the skill feels too niche.

Right now it's not niche - you mix it with dark convergence in PVE. As the proxy det is timed you can land proxy det, shalks, polar wind, a ground aoe and dark convergence and then hit em with titanic cleave at the same time if there is anything more bosslike left in the smoking crater.
