Why are some game settings account wide and others not?

I can see how some players may want certain settings to be character specific, such as "auto decline duels". But why are settings such as whether or not to display frame rates and latency not account wide? And especially controls (keybindings).

I took time to set up my controls, then discovered I had to redo these on every character one by one.

It would be nice if at the very least there was an option to "apply to all characters". The way it is now is very disjointed and is a real pain to manage.

Probably due to alting and some classes having different mechanics. Like for example a Sorc ordering pets around might want different keybindings than a Templar who doesn't even have a companion yet. I will agree though that it can be very annoying and it'd be nice to have different customizable presets that span the whole account to choose from.

I do understand why some are, but why things like displaying frame rates and latency? Also, the keybindings should have the option to apply to all characters.

I know, that's why I'm agreeing with you at the end! Also annoying having to re-enable resource numbers, ultimate numbers, buffs and debuffs, turning off dodge roll by double tapping, assigning the dodge roll key, etc.

In this Collections of addons look up PART 7 - HELPFUL ADDONS FOR PC, I also wish it was apart of the vanilla game without any addons

I'm not sure if it's an addon, but I know I have the option to put a checkmark next to my keybinds and it makes that keybind account wide... I have all mine checked so everything is account wide.

This really bugs me. Like guild chat colours are per character for no reason at all (does anyone actually want the same guild to be different on each character?) but custom aoes are the same colour account wide, when per character colours would actually make some sense because of class skill colours.

Everything per character with a copy to all option would be a fantastic way to fix it OP!

I try to limit how many addons I use to avoid issues with new patches, etc., although I may do this before I roll a new alt.

But it would be such a simple thing to give us a checkmark to apply to all characters. The way it is now makes no sense.

I can't actually remember the last time I had an issue with an addon after a patch. It can be a big annoying if the mod authors don't update the API version right away, but if that happens, I just go into each file that hasn't been updated and do it myself. In fact, tomorrow is probably the day to fix those that haven't been fixed as yet....

I have a LOT of addons.... mostly QOL. No combat metric stuff.

That one has worked since 2014 i think so no worries there.

But yes I agree. It would make a lot more sense to have settings account wide by default and to have them manually changed to individual character only IF needed. I have never understood the dev logic behind this. Since beta.
