Please show my hair with a hood or helm. Cosmetics ingame really suck.

I am someone who tends to grab as many cosmetics as humanly possible but in this game it is incredibly lacking. The only thing they tend to release is costumes, and while that is nice, they are not very customizable. Which leads us to the outfit system.

Helmets are terrible. My friends and I agree that there are probably a handful of good styles out there for a reason, and it’s probably because

1. Hoods make you go bald.
2. Every single freaking hood looks the same, and it hugs the head terribly (and by that I mean so loosely yet like a paper bag).
3. Helms are not customizable; there are no face masks so that you can still show your hair. Plated helms don’t have the option of letting hair spill out the bottom, or a ponytail to hang out the back. Costume hats have hairstyle variants that work with them, why not helms? The Dominion war hairstyle in the CS says specifically in the description that it’s braided in a way to wear under a helm, yet if I even so much as put on a hat, it goes away.

[snip] Why bother making some tweaks to helmets to avoid clipping when making a character go bald is a lot easier. I hate it though. It looks so bad when my character puts on a hood and goes bald when before, she had flowing long hair. Please, at least make it so that with hoods and helms it does the same thing with hats and shows our hairline, instead of making our foreheads look huge. I really like bangs so I hate seeing my forehead so bare.

And, on that note. Why does the ZoS team hate long hairstyles so much? I get that there can be clipping, but, honestly? I wouldn’t care about clipping if I could rock long hair with bangs.

Warcraft is a decade older than you and it nails cosmetics so much better. (AND THEY HAVE A F R E E BARBER SHOP TO CHANGE HAIRSTYLES AND HAIR COLORS ON THE FLY.) They have all kinds of helm styles. Get with the times, please. I would think it would be easy if Warcraft’s old af engine can manage change. I look at other MMOs jealously because they have soooo much better and prettier cosmetic systems.

I don’t like being negative on the forums, I appreciate the game, but this really bugs me.

One of the main reasons I don't bother using hats, helmets, hoods, or anything of the sort is because 90% of the time they get rid of your hair. I don't see how hard it could be to make it so your hair isn't yeeted into the void by most headwear. Sure, there might be some clipping, but we already HAVE a bunch of clipping issues, so I don't really see that as an excuse. I'd take clipping over being rendered bald or with super short hair any day.

I myself would very much love to see it implemented but I don't think it's ever going to happen. The reason is long hair takes the same slot as helmets in character textures and there's literally no free space to load hair and helmet textures at the same time with the current 2048x1024 character texture setup. Changing this would require A LOT of work and I don't see ZOS ever going for it.

Actually, I don't think it has anything to do with the textures. It's because your character can wear many different hairstyles, meaning they are bound to clip through pretty much every hood or hat model you wear. The solution is to add a hairstyle to the hood/hat mesh that replaces your hair when you equip a hat, which some already do, but that means whatever type of hair your character has may not match the one ZOS chooses for that hat. So, they made them take up the same slot as the hair so your hair doesn't render at all when you have a hat on. This is, unfortunately, an issue in most games with character customization. That's why I only really wear hoods that are tight enough to my character's face that you wouldn't be able to see her hair anyway (or hoods that have masks).

I'd kinda prefer if they just added hair to the hoods anyway, even if it doesn't match the hairstyle my character might have without the hat on. I guess they could've also just made it so the hair mesh adjusts to fit the hood, but that opens up a whole can of annoying issues with clipping since so many of the models are similar yet so different. Clipping is an annoying thing to fix. I don't see them changing this, unfortunately. Especially since they apparently vowed they wouldn't change the art once it's already in the game. Like you said, it would take a lot of work. Also, believe it or not, some people probably like that hoods make your character look bald (I don't see why they would like this, unless their character is bald, but eh).

Also, you're underestimating how much clipping there would probably be lol. If you think the clipping on other pieces of armor is bad, you'd be begging them to change things back if they actually did decide to let the hair clip through hats. In games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim, there are mods that let you wear hats while keeping your hair, and it looks absolutely terrible. It's impossible to ignore it because of the sheer amount of clipping there is.

Some hats do show hair. Just not what was the original hairstyle. A couple that I use I really like the hairstyle under the hat but its not available!!
