Is the Puncturing Strikes (and morphs) ability considered an AOE?

According to the tooltip, Puncturing Strikes (and morphs) is a channel. However, it also has a (cone-like) area of effect.
Does that mean that, for example, Dagon's Dominion applies to Puncturing Strikes (and morphs)?
Or is Puncturing Strikes (and morphs) only buffed by sets that increase channelled abilities?
FYI: Dagon's Dominion 5-piece bonus = Adds 492 Weapon Damage to your area of effect abilities.
