Account Characters as Houseguests

The idea is pretty much in the tin: Let us use our alternate characters on an account as Houseguests.

No dialogue (except maybe some generic voice sounds like laughter or grunting, per the voice type of the character) and wardrobe based on whatever Outfit is actively toggled. Obviously, an IF_Check could be added on_load for the home to see if the character is active, and selectively not spawn the houseguest if that's the active character you're currently playing. This would also be a great way to show a gallery of our characters if we wanted to.

Let's not make this the "more special collectibles limit" thread, please. I agree that we need it, but this is not what I'm posting about.

What do you think?

This idea has been floating around since before houseguests were a thing and a lot of people would like to see something like this, especially if you can access their inventories like mini bankers

Yeah, but it will lower profit from crown store houseguests so I guess it won't happen...

I would end up unlocking every spot to make custom lvl 1 house guests.

I did go the other way and turn a house guest into a playable character:

Counterpoint: It would also incentivize some to purchase extra character slots.

I've bought one, Sereyne, on my PC NA first account. I also have the free one, Phaedra. That's pretty much all I'm interested in....

I would love this. Wasn't there a competition to win your character as a house guest? Whoever won that has what we want.
    Also the technology is there...

I am hoping this is something they are working on in the background. I've been furnishing my house with a spot for each of my mains and a round table with a different chair/throne for each of my characters. I'd buy the feature at release, and I hardly do that for anything in this game.

I would love this. In other games where this is possible, I often have a "replica" of my other characters present somewhere.

For example, I literally learned how to mod Skyrim in order to make custom companions that are all my Skyrim characters, present in the Skyrim world.

One funny part of that, my dragonknight, Lhemures, in ESO lives in Autumn's Gate (near Nimalten in The Rift). Nimalten is right next to Ivarstead, and Ivarstead is where Lhemures hangs out and works at the mill during the day in Skyrim. :D

    Anyway, love this idea.

I see a complication. Our companions do no join us in our homes because they are also available are furnishings that can be placed in our homes. It seems logical that it is this way due to complications since it does not create any harm otherwise. If this is the case then the same issue would apply to be able to place our characters into our homes as is being suggested.

Well technically I think that biggest problem is that loading character with full outfit information is much more complicated and demanding for game than just putting random NPC. You can see that even Mirri and Bastian as house guest are not our Mirri and Bastian, but just fake models pretending to being them.

We have furniture slot limits for a reason so don't count for something so heavy as your characters with all information about them (body, outfit, tattoos etc)

Great idea. I would buy additional char slot, recreate Stuga, put her in the cage and put that cage in the tower of Daggerfall Outlook so I would not see her any more ^^

It has been suggested many times, and I would love it! The way to eliminate all techincal difficulties would be to sell them as character selection tab tokens, like the name change and the like. You use them in that screen, and get a copy of the selected character, exact replica of the char in that moment.

    Edit. for grammar

If that was the problem then they could replace player characters rather than taking up a furnishing slot. They could even work like Companions and unsummon when more people want to visit. You could set priority order so that you choose which ones leave first, or even choose to always keep them so the possible visitors is reduced.

We can only have one primary (on console at least, I know PC has ways around it) so it would be nice for our other houses to have a bit more life to them!

I'm sure this isn't an easy feature to implement, but I would love it as well. I spend a lot of time on how my characters look and would love to arrange them in some way to add life to my house.

My guess is if this was implemented well, it would lead to more house sales, character slot sales, costume sales, etc. so it would be worth it to develop.

I for one would end up buying a house for each character...

I’d even settle for a blank houseguest template that you can customize. I’d buy that.
