Reshade DOF question

Hello, I've been trying to use reshade to mod some aspects of the game to my preferences, however I've come accross issues whenever a shader needs "depth of field" access. As I've discovered this is because reshade itself blocks netcode in ESO to prevent cheating. However I've also found that some mods in NexusMods provide a modified version of reshade that unlocks access to "depth of field", and my question is, am I allowed to use such a version of reshade, or do I risk getting banned as it could be considered an exploit?

One big reason why reshade is generally accepted for online games is because it purposely doesn't allow access to the depth buffer, which could be used to see things behind walls etc...

Purposely trying to circumvent this limitation starts getting you into more grey territory, where access to the depth buffer is meaningless unless you purposely exploit it with other mods, but how would one know what you are using it for. It could be pretty screenshots, or it could be something like cheating in PvP.

Gshade is a fork of reshade for which ESO is officially "whitelisted" by the developers of that injector (whatever that means). Basically there are no network restrictions imposed on ESO for GShade, whereas other non-whitelisted programs still have those same network restrictions. You could try using that program, but you wont get any confirmation from ZoS as to whether they approve or not.

Generally they will stick with the "No third party software allowed" rule in any case, so whether it is reshade or GShade you always are assuming a small risk of getting booted, nefarious intentions or not.

I see, I will give Gshade a try.
Just for clarification I intended to use the Cartoon/Comic shaders to give the game a more cel shade anime sort of look, but with reshade it becomes very unstable because of said depth buffer restriction.

Thank you for your reply :)
