What’s an OG boss that STILL throws people off?

Did you know if you kill the "feast" balls the player who is trapped will be dropped and you don't have to do the entire fight down 1 player?

For the Cursed One - stop DPS while someone is cursed (if you didn't roll dodge the curse). Then they don't die and you get a no death run!

I rarely meet anyone who knows these mechanics.

I still have trouble with the Mad Architect. I'm never sure whether I have to step out of or remain in his circle.

Even though I’ve done it a million times (VoM is one of my favorite dungeons), I occasionally go in when I should go out or vice versa. Then I laugh.

That one's just true of Harvesters in general. When I was new, I made it to Coldharbor before I learned that A) Harvesters had mechanics, and B.) How to follow those mechanics.

Before that, Harvesters like Doshia were my most hated enemies in quests and at dolmens.

Not a dungeon boss, but another world boss-- Graufang, the bear at Seaview Point in Glenumbra.

I always had trouble soloing him, and he can be pretty difficult to handle even with other players helping, but I figured out the best way to handle him-- run up and attack him while he's still in his cave, then stand in the cave entrance while you attack him and keep him from leaving it. I'm able to solo him easy-peasy that way. :)

Canonreeve Oraneth in vEH1. It took forever to get the no death run achievement because someone always gets killed by the AOE. Even when I explain beforehand that the big ground AOE will one-shot them, someone still dies from it...

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...

Mezeluth from Crypt of Hearts 2. Someone will always stack that bomb.

The easiest way to deal with the Cursed One is to nuke it before the mech starts. Somewhat risky but easily doable if you know what you are doing. You will still die to fall damage eventually in that godforsaken place.

Not a dungeon boss but that troll on the bridge...

So many, all with pretty basic mechanics but can be tough with pugs:
The Cursed One - very hard to get the no death achievement with a pug.
Malubeth the Scourger and Gamyne Bandu - people don't seem to understand the mechanics to unpin people
Penultimate boss in CoH2 - rare to have someone not die after the pull mechanic.
Drodda - with a low DPS pug and someone who doesn't understand they need to break free of the drain this fight can be neverending.
Honourable mention to an OG world boss too: the golden saint in Stonewalls slaps so hard, I was pretty happy to solo that for the first time, long after I could solo most other base game world bosses.

This one isn't a dungeon either, but considering I have yet to see anyone DO this mechanic (other than myself)

    Tumma-Maxath in Bloodrun cave.

When his health bar is gold, he is invulnerable. Yes a TINY bit of damage gets through but if you kill those weak skeletons, he's vulnerable again.

I've watched people unload multiple ultimates into this boss when invulnerable, while ignoring the 5 skeletons beating on them.

I think of the dungeons that are technically supposed to be oldest and easiest, but there’s still an OG inside

BC1 Rilis pivots to face you on HM and if you aren’t ready already, too bad. Codes combat alerts says it’s-supposed- to be too easy to be included in their list, but some people are still getting smacked and burned to this day

Ciirenas the Shepherd in FG2. I usually go grab a drink.

THIS. This so much. Every time I pug and someone decides to not skip I'm like 'okay, but don't kill her spiders'...'don't kill her spiders guys'...'stop killing spiders she will shield'...'NO KILLING SPIDERS'...and then after they kill the last of them I just afk pretty much xD Usually they wipe in 5-10 mins upon finally realizing something is wrong, then I tell them about spiders AGAIN and then we finally make it. Why people flat refuse to listen/ignore group chat in a vet dungeon is beyond me.

It's generally the fights that actually still have some mechs. When going into vet dlc's, most people seem at least somewhat aware there're mechanics there, those going in base game vet often seem to just turn brain off before going in. So any player-interruptable/induced boss heals/buffs are a huge nope. Drodda in Direfrost, Ciirenas in FG2, Rilis in BC2, etc.

Tempest last boss, forgot her name, gets an honorary mention because people seem incapable of following the 'don't go too far' advice. You repeat it about 15 times in different words - 'don't go too far she will jump and kill you', 'come closer', 'don't run off', 'don't go so far or she will jump', 'you're too far from boss', whatever - they do it AGAIN for 16th time in a row and you just give up and leave them dead for the rest of the fight. And woe be you if you have 3 of those there XD

Oh this just reminded me Nerieneth HM (COH2). We had to kick someone once because they would NOT stop killing the ghosts, even though I kited the ghosts as far away from the boss as possible. This person wasn't even reading group chat in between wipes when we were talking "Ok do you want to do HM or not? this is how you do HM for this dungeon." It was infuriating!

Even worse is when the tank doesn't kite the ghosts at all, they die in cleave.

When it comes to Mezeluth, I seriously wonder if the best strategy isn't actually for just a couple of people to go in and beat him down while the other two stay completely out of range? Or do they get dragged into the fight anyway?

Because there's always somebody who doesn't get his roll-dodge right, or dodges in the same direction as somebody else and kills both of them...

Yesterday ran Arx Corinium with a new group - and the first round of battle with the Fanged Menace ALL of them stood in red, zipped the health bar right back up.

Luckily they were listening in chat, so it was easily addressed.

I remember many moons ago when I was with a PUG group and none of us could figure out what was happening. We must have wasted a half an hour on that darn boss and never did figure it out till after the fact.

It is technically easier, ye. That's how I've actually gotten my no death shortly after it came out, back when it was still actually really hard lol. We had one guy who was really bad at the rolling thing so he just hung behind (you have to be pretty far, way out of attacks range, like at the very entrance to the big hall room before her little arena thing, and you obviously don't get to participate in the fight, tho I think there's a sweet spot where you still get loot and don't get pulled) and we 3 manned it. 2 manning is even easier in terms of that one mech, but slower in terms of dps loss. Honestly in 90% scenarios it's still faster to run in with 4 and yolo, that boss has low health and even if a couple people die you can probably finish her off quickly enough without even needing to res.

When she says that immediately pan the camera to your feet. When you start seeing some rubble forming around them and then shortly after that a damage indicator under your feet. When you see the red circle under your feet roll dodge. Until then, stand still.
