Would you buy PvP DLC?

We don't get many new features for PvP. I'd like to measure the level of interest for a PvP DLC.

Here are some quick ideas. Just an example.
  • Ranked deathmatch arenas with elo rating (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4)
  • Daily tournaments with rewards
  • Cyrodiil / IC enhancements
  • A new battleground experience
  • PvP rewards (titles, mounts, skins, weapon styles, costumes, etc)

Assume the PvP DLC is priced the same as other DLC.

while personally I would find such a DLC a little intresting...if not dissapointing, the vast majory of the playerbase which arn't even aware that the forums exsist would absloutly hate it...best bet is to hope that they add in PvP featuers with the regular updates.

Even if I would like such a dlc content we already know that "no pvp content until Cyrodiil is fixed" is in place. That team is like1 or 2 years in work already? So I'd expect it to take at least a year since now as we had no real progress updates since then. And after that I'd expect pvp features rolling out more as a Morrowind with one universal feature being new class and one pvp one being BG, as dlc needs to be sold to other types of players also, obviously.

Wouldn't spend any money on a straight pvp DLC - and it would have to have more pve content than pvp for me to even consider it. And even if there was more pve than pvp content, it would depend on what the pve part was - something like Western Skyrim/Markarth? Nopenopenope.

If it's a pure PvP DLC or even a PvP-focused DLC with some PvE I'd not buy it.

I wouldn't mind if they replaced one of the dungeon DLCs with it though since I don't get those either.

I probably wouldn't buy a pvp-only DLC directly, but if it were included in ESO+ I might check it out, particularly if the swag to be gained was appealing.

Of course, I say that as someone who likes Cyrodiil a lot but has only been in Battlegrounds to get the Midyear Mayhem meta-achievement, because even the lure of fashion isn't quite enough to get me back into a pvp mode that I don't really enjoy. So it would probably be a case where I went in like once and then didn't go back unless I just found it intrinsically fun (which is less likely with small-scale pvp like Battlegrounds or something super competitive with rankings).

He means people who actually look at and/or post there. The vast majority of game players, don't bother doing those things.

(as a corollary, the views expressed on forums and/or the internet, frequently don't match the general playerbase. One big example for me was back when Bioware released those post-ME3 statistics. Even though the internet had been full of years & years of "Maleshep is boring! Jen Hale's Femshep is awesome!", in actuality 80% of players played Maleshep.)

I don’t PvP currently, but I would love it if they spent more time on it. I’d be willing to give it a try if they balanced things better. Right now it’s just not fun to go in and get 1 or 2 shot instantly. Provides little incentive to get involved.

Why didn't you like Western Skyrim/Martkarth Sylver?

I personally found the experience a bit dull but that might have to do with me playing Skyrim a lot before coming to ESO, so it did not feel very new to me

Well, that's part of it yes - because I'm STILL playing Skyrim! But I really don't like any content involving werewolves and vampires. Never have, never going to. The only way I got through the Dawnguard in Skyrim was by disabling damned Serana except when she was absolutely necessary. I did it once.... never again.

I'm just persnickety like that. I did like The Reach somewhat better (scenery/music) than WS.

Be sure to take the results of this poll with a grain of salt - the higher-level/endgame/PvP communities are way overrepresented on the forum compared to the actual game. There are loads of players in the game who are very casual and consider PvP a death sentence. ZOS knows this as well, so unless you're ending up with about 99.9% favorable, they'll read it as "PvP DLC is a bad idea and will make us no money based on time spent."

It's not easy ot make PvErs into PvPers. A lot of players have anxiety about dying, and that's basically the crux of being in PvP. Furthermore, PvP has a very high barrier to entry in terms of the builds/skills needed. Of course people will complain about lag or skills not firing, but the clearest example of that is the populations of the modes: many Cyro campaigns are pretty empty outside of primetime, even though the max population is a bit lower than anyone would like it to be. BG queues can't support the populations for grouping and choosing game mode. IC is mostly deserted outside of events.

...and adding another PvP mode will fix that? Unless that magically opens up a brand new PvP population, you're just going to be leeching from the populations in the other modes, so that would give longer BG queues, fewer people running sieges, and crickets in the sewers.

Not only that, a PvP mode people have to pay for? There's a reason BGs weren't part of the Morrowind chapter and instead came in as basegame. There's a reason they repriced IC to free. Sure a lot of players have ESO+, but it seems every other post from a PvPer on the forums involves "I'm cancelling my sub!" in some form. You really expect all of them to spring for this new mode?

That's why PvP gets so little love in this game - because there are not many ESO players who would want to PvP who don't already, so nothing is going to increase the PvP population as much as split it more. Imagine if they added this new mode, but they made it so you could only queue for a random BG as a solo player to compensate for the reduced BG population?

I know a lot of PvPers are asking for ranked duels or something, and that seems like an addition they could put in without messing with the population much. It'd need to be part of a free update, but then people would be able to get a quick 1v1 fix with some AP or other rewards. That also may start to pull at the BG community who's already mad about the lack of DM games, but that also doesn't give the 4-man support you do have in BGs so it may still even out and not lengthen queue times that much.

From the list of things you suggested, they should be free. Buying DLC to expand systems already in place is just scummy. If I'd be dropping cash it would have to be something new.

I've played the game since PC launch. It's a really wonderful game overall. While originally PVP was more of a focus, it became clear early on that they decided to focus more on PVE. And that's fine, I get that's the direction they want to go, and i respect PVE - it can be fun.

For me personally though, PVP has felt stale for quite some time. Its really a shame, because the combat in this game is great. But that's just the direction the company has decided to take.

I answered "Yes" to this poll because of course I would love to see more PVP content. However, it doesnt seem like it's going to happen. And prior to it happening, many, MANY performance issues need to be addressed.

PvP has to be somewhat balanced first, and that's not being accomplished right now and never has or will be as long as they must also cater to PvE "progression," which really just means changing the META. And every META change, balance gets worse...

Yes, even though I'm only a casual pvp-er. It would be something different, which I'd prefer from yet another dungeon dlc or story dlc, and it would revive the pvp community. In Cyrodiil at least, numbers seem to be dwindling, and there's no excitement anymore, plus it's been a while since the hammer was introduced, so I think the pvp-side is due for some new features.

I would buy a DLC that eliminated PvP and made Cyrodil PVE just so the whole PVP drama would be over and done with. It’s been an albatross for ESO since launch.

I'm not sure how to vote.

On the one hand, YES, I would definitely buy such a DLC if it contained playable content, especially if the Collector's Edition came with the usual extras such as a mount and a pet. I usually buy all playable DLCs despite being an ESO Plus subscriber and getting access to them anyway.

But on the other hand, I'm not necessarily VERY INTERESTED in actually playing such a DLC at this time. I seldom engage in PvP as it is, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out. If I were to vote on the basis of how interested I am in such a DLC, I'd probably go with NEITHER INTERESTED NOR DISINTERESTED.

I could choose MAYBE - SOMEWHAT INTERESTED as a compromise, but that doesn't accurately reflect that I'd surely buy it.

PvP populations are already low. Adding more content probably isn't a good idea at this time. Enhancing or changing existing content could be done but that couldn't be a DLC because it would lock players out that previously could enter.

Any added PvP would have to be base game. Only way to get a decent population participating.

It would depend on what the content actually is.

Maybe something that is not combat. Something different from what is available currently. Perhaps we could have races so players could test their speed against each other, Maybe be an obstacle course.

Something to promote rewards for tank, and healer builds, survive an onslaught, keep the target alive, ect.

Overall more variety within pvp would be great.

As much as I would like to see a dlc that can bring new life to pvp, ESO PVP community is in the minority, and we are not their target audience for Zeni. I mean the last major pvp update was over 4 years ago lol.

Might as well look for another game that is pvp oriented that receive proper pvp updates.

Maybe we’ll see one in the future, but I won’t hold my breath on it.
