Controller trouble with melee auto-aim

Problems have been bugging me since I switched to melee from range:

1. The range of auto-aim is not the same for everything. Light attacks for example have smaller range / require precision and it fails to fire when some mob just fell on his feet in combat, while other single-target abilities continue to work and this interrupts light weaving.
2. But, if the target is a dungeon boss, even when it's flying I can hit outside the normal range. That's NOT good at all - how are we supposed to aim properly when it's not even consistent?
3. Gap closer hits distant rats and harmless spiders in combat. Seriously WTF?!

As one of controller users on PC the auto-aim is always used and needed. It's not like we can turn it off even if possible. Any movement cause the crosshair to slightly change and bigger / consistent auto-aim behavior would definitely help.

I wonder if there is some hidden option or addon to help this. Or need to ask ZOS....

You can turn up the highlight thickness/brightness for when you're targeting enemies. The one with hit priority will glow in real time.

It's under the Nameplate settings at the bottom I think.

Ranged users also benefit more from using the tab-targeting feature. It's not like other games where you cycle through all available targets, it's more of a 'cycle between multiple targets that are in your crosshair'.

When you use the tab target it 'locks' that as your preferred target and it has a permanent highlight (until killed or you change/release your tab target).

It's not a guarantee that all attacks will hit only that enemy, you still have to get the crosshair on them and there can be times when other enemies get in the way. But it greatly increases your accuracy to go after that specific target. Light attacks even bend through space and can hit when you're not facing the enemy full on.

Additionally, you might like some addons that alter the target reticle. There are ones where the crosshair will change shape or color when you have an enemy directly focused vs. not.
