Returning player - new character

It's been a while since I've played so I'm having a go without ESO+ for a bit. I started a new character and for some reason it's started in Summerset even though I own Elswyer. Is this right?

The portal you enter after creating your character determines your starting point now.

You can start in any zone you want to, it's your choice You will still get the faction main quest, and the story line main quest as usual

Hey @pdblake! Did you play through the tutorial? New characters that go through the tutorial will reach a room with portals that lead to all the different starting areas in ESO. Otherwise, it should place you in the most recent chapter you've purchased.

Please check to make sure you still have access to Elsweyr.

Never mind. It's been so long since I last played the start has changed beyond recognition. I now find I'm in a room with portals to all over the place so I can pick where to start, something I asked for years ago. Seems someone did listen after all.

Thanks all. It was the elf who confused me. I just assumed I'd started in Summerset.

Yeah, technically you're in High Rock. (At least I think Balfiera is considered part of High Rock. Could be mistaken about that.)
