House Guest

I'm thinking of getting Erilthel but can't decide if house guests really adds anything to a home. For those of you that have them do you have many and do you think it was money well spent? Does it give a house a more lived in feel?

Having NPCs walking around your house definitely makes it feel more like a home (or business or whatever it is). I would say sometimes I forget they are there and I think there is a player visiting my home for a moment.

A limitation is that the only thing you can make them do is either stand still or have them path around your house. If the pathing is quite short or in a loop, it can get a bit repetitive with them walking in the same circle over and over.

Overall I would say they are worth it. Btw you can get two for free by levelling up your companions if you don't want to spend crowns. You can also use the banker and merchants, but they don't have as much dialog.

Thank you. I hadn't thought about the companions being house guests once they hit the level needed. I think I'll go ahead. I'm going to get Sweetwater when it comes out and there should be lots of room for paths in that place. Plus might make it feel less huge with people wandering around the grounds.

I only have the non-speaking Dunmer alcolyte. He makes a good bartender in my vampire bar. LOL Oh and the girl who is reading a map. Honestly I'm not keen to acquire any of the others. They're too specific and their dialogue has nothing to do with my characters. I'd much prefer if they gave us more generic servants and guards to choose from with little dialogue. There's an argonian in the castle in Northpoint that sweeps a certain room I'd love to have. I also wish they'd get around to releasing the barmaid that's on PTS. And I'd realllly like a vampire thrall your vampires could feed on that doesn't look like a disgusting zombie. I've not really been impressed with the houseguests overall.

I have a mount and a couple pets wandering around the outside of my house, makes the place feel a bit more alive to me.

Even if the house guests (at the moment) can only stand around or walk around, I still enjoy meeting and talking to them when I visit my main house. But I would like the limit for house guests / pets to be increased, because in a large house with indoor and outdoor areas it is sometimes still "empty". And it would also be nice if a few new dialogue lines were added to existing house guests in between.

I love to have a bard, but one that can sing. Some npc bards sound like they are calling out the hogs from a pig pen(Soo-Wee!).

I have several house-guests and personally i feel they add a lot of "RP/Life" to my home. I have my guard on patrol, my serving lady back and forth from kitchen to bar to throne-room, my assistant scribe in my library, not house-guest but my merchant in my trading area, my thief hidden in her small dark shrine, my automaton in his laboratory, etc.

Adding them just to have them stand in a row along a wall, no they don't add much, but if you build around them as if they were actual people living/serving you, then i find it offers me a lot of inspiration.

I'll remember this. It takes planning but makes a lot of sense.

They are definitely worth it because you can make paths with them, and they liven up a place. The only downside is they share slots with assistants and other special collectibles, so there's a limit of how many you can place in each home.

Agreed, favorite mount, favorite pet, merchant, banker, outlaw merchant, and your already half filled on the largest houses.

If nothing else I'd love an increase on these slots as they are regularly selling more house-guests and even more-so, now they will have companions you can use as guests... to have even just your few favorites leaves little else for the "worker/servant" NPC types like the barmaid, guard, (upcoming) blacksmith, etc.

I understand spreading them through various homes, but i am one of those who has a main house and basically that's it, I've used Daggerfall Overlook from its release. I can work with limits, but i would like a little more of this type.

Same here. I had to bump off the historian houseguest in order to fit Erilthel in. Not to mention I can not display any of my mounts. I wish ZOS would increase the collectable limit by a little, but that's just screaming into a void.

I never thought I'd use houseguests but I have placed a couple. I haven't taken the time to path them yet because I just find it a royal pain, but some day I'll get it done. These are the ones I've placed so far.

The historian is outside the Curator's office cataloging new items that have come in to the History of Tamriel Museum I set up in The Hall of the Lunar Champion.

The barmaid is serving guests in the bar at the Silver Light Lodge set up in the Antiquarian's Alpine Gallery, and also serving guests at Mighty Orc Ales tavern set up in Ravenhurst.

Bastian and Mirri are the massage therapists at Le Masseuse massage parlor set up in Sugar Bowl Suite in Rimmen.

Bastian is staying in the guest house over the barn at my Necromancer's home, Serenity Falls Estate.

Elinhir Private Arena only has 10 special collectible slots which is very low. The arena looks empty.

That said, the house guests do add a sense of life to the arena. 2 guards, a coordinator, Mirri, and some others. They are getting ready for tonight's spectacular battles.

I have Jorn being chased by a very angry scamp, in one of my homes.

He hides and stops and runs again, it was a total pain to path so the scamp didn't end up overtaking him all the time and tbh even now after I while I think Jorn must get tired it's a bit weird.

However on entering the house the first thing I see is him run by scamp in tow it always makes me smile! :)

I would like to have more scholarly houseguests (apart from more slots for them...). My Antiquarian's Alpine Gallery is a "research facility", besides first-class scholars like Biro-Dar and Phedre, Lyranth spreads good humor here and various Scamps and Banekins hop around.
  • everseeing_njpreub18_ESO
No matter what they release, mounts, pets, house-guests or companions, with the amounts currently in place it will always be a fairly unfortunate limitation to those "fun" setups as mentioned.
