What class can heal a group but also do decent DPS?

I have only just arrived and seem to be mystified by which class to use. I like to be able to heal a group, but also able to solo with decent DPS. I enjoy having a pet also. Can anyone steer me in a direction that will help me narrow my choices please? Thanks.

Magwarden, you can change from DD to Healer by just changing your setup and it is good at both.
And you have the bear if you like pets.

So, all classes are designed to be viable as tanks, healers, and damage dealers in group content.

That being said, Templar and Warden are still the main two healer classes, especially if you want to play a full healer in trials at some point.

If you are specifically looking for a damage dealer who can play as an off-healer with pets, I'd recommend trying out Sorc. Pet sorcs do great DPS with a fairly simple rotation. Meanwhile, the Twilight Matriarch has a huge burst heal that can easily keep a dungeon group going as long as you pay attention and buff people with a back-bar resto staff. I have much less experience with Necromancers, but if non-permament pets aren't a problem for you, you might enjoy that as well.

(Caveat: My experience is playing as a DD/Tank on a pet sorc, and frequently finding myself covering for a fake healer as well. Twilight Matriarch is great for those situations.)

Mag Warden, Mag Sorc and Mag Necro could probably all fit the way you want to play.

Normal dungeons dont require a healer, you can play them as any class. Just slot a self heal and you will be fine.
Veteran dungeons require a buffer class and sometimes a healer. Buffing/debuffing and occasionally healing takes all time, you will not have time to dps other than using basic weapon attack.
Sorcerer has a pet that can be used as emergent healing.
Warden's bear is useless for a healer and takes away important ultimate skill slot.

Welcome to the game! If you enjoy having a pet, I'd say Warden or possibly Sorcerer. Warden's are one of the main healing classes in the game, and are strong in many other roles. I have three of them and love them! Sorcs are fun, the Twilight Matriarch has a flash heal and there's an AOE ultimate heal in the Absorption Field. Of course if you are playing a healer, you'll be using resto bar skills and won't be relying solely on your class's skills.

There's a guild finder within the game under the Social menu.

Please stop stating you don't need healers for low level toons. Yes, once you hit CP160+ sure, your self heal will be morphed and ranked enough to keep you going, but for leveling toons.. NO... just.. NO.

Even on my tank DK running randos with no heals is tough. Your damage dealers die, you can't kill anything.. Just no...

Now, for advice. You can run full damage dealing with your healing staff equipped with one or two heal skills slotted on the back bar. I would suggest a magsorc with a destro front bar set up and a healing staff for the back bar to heal yourself while solo.

    Good luck!

Chance to get 3 sub-160 DDs with no heals in normal random dungeon is close to 0. If you have a self heal slotted you will not die and will do enough damage to finish the dungeon.

    So...

That's happened to me multiple times. If we're lucky, I'm on my MagSorc Tank, and I can pull the DDs and the fake healer through with just the Matriarch. Sometimes I can't. There was one memorable time when the fake healer wanted to speedrun Spindleclutch 1, would run ahead, and then die to every single boss ran into. Meanwhile, as long as I was nearby and paying attention, my Matriarch could carry the group when self-heals didn't cut it.

It was a different story on my leveling Stam DK. Level 17 Stam DK tanks don't have a ton of on-demand healing without Vigor (which hadn't been reduced in rank at the time). When I got two low level DDs and a healer who had a resto staff but refused to use it, even Fungal Grotto 1 turned into a slog.

Here's the thing - no, most groups probably won't need a healer. But when you use the random queue, you never know whether or not your group needs a healer.

It's not fair to sign up for a role you don't intend to fill, throwing the responsibility for all healing to come from other players - whether that's low level DDs who may not have great self-healing yet or the tank, who's now trying to tank the boss AND heal the group (or is a fake tank, likewise ignoring that the group might need a tank.)

Or, TLDR; just because I can tank/heal/DPS for a group on my MagSorc tank doesn't mean I appreciate the person who queued up as healer abdicating their responsibility to heal the party. Do the job you signed up for.

Mag Warden and Mag Templar (my personal choice, BTW) have good healing skills and are able to do a decent amount of damage nonetheless.

A Mag Templar, in normal dungeon, may even rely only on class skills to heal, provided the others are not complete failures that run into red zones like headless chicken :)

Sets like Winter Respite add area healing to damaging skills that drop on earth. A feature that may turn useful.

    The obvious choice is sorcerer.

When you're new to healing, templar and sorcerer are the easiest classes to heal on. Sorcerers have pets. Picking the healing morph of the winged pet doesn't interfere much with having sufficient DPS to solo.

Multiple times over 1200+ runs is not often. Back when i did normal dungeons - 4 of 5 times i would get a fake tank (really DD) who will solo the dungeon, and everyone else will just run behind. Chance of getting 0 dd of 3 roles (fake tank and 2 dd) is really small.
Every class can heal even veteran dungeons with a restoration staff, if you don't have a self heal you are the one to blame.
Even though i am a full specced healer, in veteran dungeons i do 50-60% of overall healing, i never seen over 90% of overall healing.
People queue as fake roles to normal dungeons because it is possible, allowed and beneficial for everyone (fake roles shorten queue times). You cannot demand people to queue where they are simply not needed. As healer i switched to veteran dungeons and never looked back, and i think many healers and tanks did the same.

Healing and Damage output are based on the same stats so any class that can heal well can also pull decent DPS. As others have said, best healing classes are Templar, Warden, and Necromancer. The first two are particularly beginner-friendly.
