Vampirism feels incredibly underwhelming and underdeveloped

I made two of my characters vampires purely for the aesthetic and then completely forgot either of them were vampires bc it has so little bearing on gameplay

    From Update 31 patch notes:
Vampiric Drain: This ability and its morphs now heal for 25% of your Missing Health per tick, up from 23%. The morphs also no longer rank up in 1.1% per damage done per rank and now rank up in morphed effects.
    • Exhilaration[ sic] Drain (morph): This morph now ranks up 1 additional Ultimate per rank which will be 5 at rank IV, up from 4.
    • Drain Vigor (morph): This morph now gains 1% missing Stamina per rank which ends at 10% at rank IV, up from 5%.
...At least Exhilarating Drain's Ultimate generation is back to where it was pre-Greymoor, I guess. Give it a few more years and maybe it'll start doing respectable damage again 😩

Doubt it until ZOS has a change of heart. The current team's goal with this ability is healing and utility instead of actually doing damage. Shame though since the healing is channeled and based off missing health still even after the small buff to it.

That buff to drain is so small that it makes me wonder why bother. I don't know anyone who seriously uses that skill anyway. From a roleplayish gameplay sense, it would be neat if they made it have the properties of an execute, where it did 3x damage against low health enemies. But yea... The vampire rework was nonsensical both lore and gameplay wise.

Tested out the "buffed" Vampiric Drain. Maybe I should have used a different ring than Death Dealer's Fete, but the results are as follows with 27,050 Max HP.

Even with the buff the only thing I personally see anyone using this ability for is ultimate and backup stamina regeneration if you don't have a bow, your potion is on cooldown, and your foe is at range. (Depending on which morph you use)

I can see certain ultimate builds and bombers needing a recharge using Exhilarating Drain, but these tests I did were done in a PvE area. If I had Battle Spirit the results of the healing would be miniscule at best. Probably 50-ish% HP after the 4 healing procs over the course of the 3 second channel.

This is why I dislike the changes - the aesthetic - Bat Swarm was lovely cool. Blood Scion is just.. dorky.

Along with that was the aesthetic/playstyle of being able to feed in PvP - not that I ever did it much, but in terms of flavor, well ... it's missed
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I guess I have to give credit where credit is due - ZOS actually did something to make Vampirism better overall. Yes, it's a miniscule adjustment, but it's a step in the right direction nonetheless. Those what, 4.4% less damage from morphs translates to exactly zog-all damage lost, on what is essentially a healing ability anyway, and I can't say no to extra healing and Ulti generation/Stamina regeneration, even if it is still barely anything. I'll take slow and gradual improvement over the high-octane Mr. ZOS' Wild Balance Ride any day.

I can't help but liken the situation with vampirism to trying to scream through several layers of soundproofing - you keep on yelling your lungs off and but a peep comes through on the other side. This "peep" being our discontent (to put it mildly) with post-Greymoor Drain. I think we can all agree that no matter how satisfied you were with the reVamp, no matter how much you built into vampirism, everyone writes this skill off as a bloody (pardon the pun) waste of a slot. Even the few people who tried to defend the rework just accepted the new Drain as a failure. Sure, the attempt to buff it is misguided (it does even less damage now than it did before, its healing is still based on missing Health, and the Ultimate generation on the morph is only just back to pre-Greymoor levels), but I'm happy to see that an attempt was made.
