BSW - Inferno staff needed or not ?

Hi all ,

I saw quite some people saying they could NOT find inferno staffs for their burning spell weave set.

I was thinking about having 5 cloth/Armor Items so that i have it active all the time (and not lose it with bar swapping.

My question is though : The flame damage will proc even if i use another staff to cast the flame ability with ?

Or does it have to proc off a BSW inferno staff ?

I use the MS staff instead, and BSW in jewelry/clothing pieces and I'm happy with that.

They asked do you need a BSW staff for the proc. The answer is no, you just need 5pc BSW. If you have MS jewels and staff, and 5pc BSW anywhere else, for example, you wont drop the extra spell damage when you swap, because it's triggered by a flame damage ability and runs on a cooldown.

"When you deal damage with a Flame Damage ability, you apply the burning status effect to the enemy and increase your Spell Damage by 490 for 8 seconds. This effect can occur once every 12 seconds."

So, regardless of how you have the BSW configured gear-wise, the proc will not drop if you swap. You only need to have 5pc and a flame damage ability on front. When swapping any front barred set will drop the 4&5pc bonuses, but not an active proc. This also works when going from back to front, eg, MA staff, etc. You drop the opportunity to proc it, but if it's already active, swapping has minimal affect.

correct you only need 5 pieces of BSW in whatever combination to be able to proc,
but BSW destro on front bar instead of MS destro has an advantage of 1528 spell crit if you can keep high enough uptime on the BSW proc. (this is true for every proc set that stays active when you drop the 5 piece bonus from bar swapping).

BSW front bar:
you loose 657 spell crit fom the 4 piece bonus and the ability to proc the 5 piece bonus as long as you are on the backbar

MS front bar:
you loose 657 spell crit from the 4 piece bonus and 1528 spell crit from the 5 piece bonus as long as you are on the backbar but you can still proc BSW when it's off cooldown.

It's perfectly fine to not use BSW flame destro but if you want to optimize everything you should consider it.

Question 2 from OP: yes the flame damage enchant and BSW proc stack (unless they changed it since 2 patches ago when I was using the set)

I also have like 4 golden staffs of MS and then 2 rings and the amulet… all in gold ;-)

I guess i always use that set so made the investment to gold all out

I haven’t been very impressed with BSW this patch. Probably not worth the farm, especially when you can just craft Diamond’s Victory.
