Bastian double dipping on bad rapport for assault

Can something be done about Bastian and double penalty's for asault? Getting attacked in Hutan-zel by Bog Dogs, random villager rushes to help and I hit them accidentally. I'm fine with the -10 Rapport. What I am NOT fine with is Bastian killing the same NPC before I can run away enough to disengage him (remember, gamepadui can't set passive on the fly) and then knocking me ANOTHER -25 Rapport plus the lecture. Especially since all I did was 1 hit, and he actually kept attacking the villager until death.

I mean, talk about hypocritical. Ok, is it obvious I'm talking about BASTIAN here? Not a forum member, and NPC in game and making a joke about their "personality"?

Better watch your choice of words in that last sentence. When I used the term 'hypocrite', I got a short vacation and my thread locked.

That being said, I agree about Bastian. When it happened to me, I ran from the NPC (not even one hit) and Bastian killed her and then gave me the extra minus rapport and a lecture.

Lol, I just got back from ban because I made a joke about killing St. Olms THE TRIAL BOSS. I won't make the rest of the sentiment, I'm sure you can guess. Why no, this is NOT discussing forum moderation, I am responding to a statement from another forum member.

What's even worse about the double rapport dipping:

    1. Bastian does NOT have a second +125 rapport quest
    2. Finding "events" to help people is rather difficult: rescuing an Imperial from a Death Hopper in Blackwood not helping, even though the Imperial specifically says "thanks for the help?"
    3. This even happens by accident in town - hit Necrotic Orb while turning in writs in Leyawiin, and would you believe the Nolus Cedus (AN NPC NOT A PERSON) really really hates that skill? So much they attacked me? I ran, but again, Bastian cast Starfall, and it crit, and poor Nolus was dead in 1 shot.

This is probably the 4th or 5th instance of this happening. It's really frustrating on chracters that haven't maxed rapport yet, because Bastian is so difficult to gain rapport with.

I finally maxed out rapport on him but it wasn't easy, especially since I stole in front of him all the time! lol

Well, he will help you, but not like it, like any true friend eh? :D

But yeah it sucks, that's why i keep attack innocents under "gameplay" turned off, and instead use an addon called "innocent blade of woe (and vampire feed). It does so that random strafing or accidentally popping an ulti, won't hurt anyone that wasn't "red" already.

It'll prevent you from hurting innocent, until AFTER they turn "red", say if you pickpocketed. You CAN blade of woe someone neutral with the addon on, but not regular (bounty causing) attacks. You can pickpocket, blade of woe. or if they aggro during pickpocketing, you (and bastian/pets too, so dismiss him when you know there's gonna be civillian casualties) are then free to fight, but won't hurt other neutral npcs unless they aggro in the process...

Sorry super clumsy explanation, I'm danish and the coffee is still brewing :D

So, to use a companion, you have to tell the game not to harm innocents - even if part of my fun in the game is running from the guards when I accidentally cast a skill in town. Because well, if you need to double tap B to back out of a menu and that character doesn't have an AoE or heal on B and OOPS welp, bounty. Happens all the time.

I haven't used that setting EVER. I don't WANT to use it, honestly. If I make a mistake I"ll run from the guards. Too late that I'll have no rapport with my companion for multiple murders THEY did, not me.

Thanks for the "help" but not a real solution. Also, NO you cannot use Blade of Woe with that setting on, or at least couldn't when it was introduced, and since the setting is persistent across characters I don't use it. If it still prevents BoW use, I won't use it. PERIOD. If I want to Blade someone I dismiss Bastian.

For those who don't use the literal HOT MESS that is gamepad ui, turning settings on/off is a major pain. You scroll FOREVER. Many times you can't shortcut things, addons won't always change states unless you toggle into keyboard UI. Honestly, I wouldn't need "prevent attacking innocents" if I didn't have to spam B to back out of gamepad UI menus... which has been an issue since gamepad ui was introduced. I reported that I can't "direct" comapnions on PTS. At least ZOS gave me the option to set a "command" button for ultimate, but I STILL cannot get pets OR Companions to respond to Command+Bumper. AT ALL. My only choice is to set "passive" at home (on keyboard with Y+mouse) and command with heavy attacks in combat. Doesn't work well when you're trying NOT to attack things or fell off a bridge just as your companion decided that a bystander needed to die.

But sure, I'll ruin my game experience one way or the other, what's the difference.

I think Bastian secretly admires the Dark Brotherhood.

He protests loudly -- because he's unable to come to terms with his murderous instincts.

Having to put up with Quistley day after day, year after year ... it takes a toll on one's morals.
