Is completely ridiculous that we have to lose all these to switch platforms.

Releveling characters, achievements, gold, inventory, etc. can be reearned, but the others may be impossible or very expensive. I could even live with a one time $10 fee to do this. It would just take a script to copy things from one database to another!

Please allow this.

I believe most enhancements should be free, but I can bow and pay real cash for this since it is a very rare one-time thing.

(The really should be across platforms now, but this would be better than what I have now, restarting on the PC.)

Let's see.... https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25807/kw/transfer from platform to platform

Can I transfer my ESO account and characters between different platforms or servers?
    Updated 04/16/2021 11:07 AM

It is not possible for Customer Support, to transfer characters, gear, gold, crowns or items, between different accounts, servers, or platforms.

We have not built, and do not plan to build, the capability to move individual characters from platform to platform. We were only able to move characters in bulk for consoles once on June 1st, 2015 because the database tables we copied to were brand new (empty). Now that the database tables are filled with other data, the techniques we used before no longer work.

Please note that Steam, retail, and digital purchases playable on PC are all PC versions of the game. The only difference with Steam is that it is integrated with the Steam client. If you have a purchase of the game in Steam you only need to log into the game using your usual credentials. You can find more details here. https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/36517

They've already explained in length why they can not do this; adding copied information to an empty server is one thing, adding copied information to servers that already have tons of information on them is entirely different, it would be a logistic nightmare.

Not that I disagree; I find it rather awful we have to purchase DLCs twice even on the same platform unless we pay for plus (PC-EU/NA for instance). For a game that is not cross platform for a number of valid reasons, it's not difficult to understand though why such information would have to be kept separate on the separate platforms after the servers have started keeping data.

It's not about transferring it's about: I buy a bloody mount/costume/chapter/whatever on XBOX, you unlock it for each game version that I own. That info (the platforms I have bought the game on) is clearly visible in the ESO account.

OP, I'm 100% with you. I don't see why I should re-buy everything should I switch to another platform. It's nonsense.

Not a single mmo that dies this even those with cross save and cross play.

I understand why the save data won't transfer but there's no reason why these purchases shouldn't be tied to your account yet they don't even count as owned if you switch servers on the same platform

From what I have read this is correct. Zenimax has chosen to not do the work to create the means. It seems they are content with this decision as they have stuck to it for years. My guess is there is a reason we are not and will not be privy to.

Remember the thread about people wanting detailed explanations and every scrap of the reasoning behind every single decision someone questions? Yeah, they aren't going to explain more than they have already done. Everyone who has nothing to do with coding/programming/proprietary engine/marketing/business plans for ZOS just *knows* doing something will be really easy [snip]

Yes, they have said they won't do it. But they are lying if they say they can't.

Many of the things could be bought again with Crowns and will then show up on the other platform, quite a few can't, but the ones that can prove the point. We are not talking much physical movement, merely flipping bits in a system.

I have done enough development work in the past to know that this is one of the easier things to do! They just need a script that gathers all the items in a given area, like the ones I noted above. Then enable those items on the other server. That is the kind of thing that can be done with very limited development effort, since it is really just "setting a bit" (simplified) on one server.

[snip] Companies change their minds all the time about things they "won't do" so that is not a valid excuse.

Perhaps this is why all the "WoW is going down and people are going to FF XIV" completely ignores ESO. I have no idea their transfer policy there, but I know I am being greatly penalized here even though I have paid quite a bit of real money in several areas.

I am not a whale, but I am not a limited spender, including purchasing ESO+. This is another thing that is irking me more and more as I rebuild on the PC after several years on the PS4. Walking from 50K Crowns and many Crown Gems constantly bugs me and being reminded I only have 2 decent mounts (the stock horse and the expansion lizard) is quite annoying. I like the addons enough to make it worthywhile and I don't even mind the rebuild grind, but knowing I can never have many of the mounts I got, including the crystal wolf I spent way to many Crowns to buy Crown Crates (my only time I gave into that) is a major downer.

Building in things like this is a very shortsighted move on their part, which is why I made the thread.
