I have a master writ for a twice-born shield. I need to know all 9 traits but am missing 3. Okay, get to researching!
I had seen the skill to research multiple items in woodworking, had a few skill points and put in enough to research 3 items at a time.
Surprise! You can research 3, but they can't be the same kind (shield in this case). Wish the description had said 3 DIFFERENT items.
