The great pvp issues

PvP in this game is plagued by 3 big issues [snip]

1. Performance
Everybody knows this, server lagg and desyncs are omnipresent. It makes the game unenjoyable and many people have quit the game over this specific issue but would gladly come back if it was fixed. The sad part is that not only was performance deliberatly canibalized to the detriment of the game several times, like in the infamous lighting patch or when they cut large quantities of code and increased server side calculations in the harrowstorm patch, but since every midyear mayhem the performance magically improves and then worsen again after the event we know for sure that they just dont want to allocate the nessecary ressources.

2. Balance
Everybody who was in for more than casual questing is aware of this issue too. The game never had particularly good balance but atleast they did try back under wrobel. We havent had any class balance since Elsweyr, so over two years ago now. Barely anything changed, the same classes are at the top or bottom as they were two years ago and classes retained their specific issues since two years ago. This wouldnt be such an issue if the status quo wasnt as bad as it is. Just think of the myriad of abilities that are clunky, subbar or straight garbage. Barely anything was improved after the new balance team took over.

3. Rewards
There is no reward for playing pvp in this game. Since morrowind 4 years ago there was no new pvp content and the existing content got barely improved at all. Everything worth having is found in PvE, wether its gear, cosmetics and mounts, or achievments and titles for bragging rights. In PvP you get nothing. All PvP gear can just be bought off a guild store and most is worse than PvE gear anyways, there are barely any cosmetic rewards at all and few ever get added, and lastly all titles, achievments and ranks are purely grind based. When youre at the top spot of the PvE leaderbords or have unlocked some of the most difficult titles and achievments in the game that is something worth being proud of and bragging about. But in PvP, wether its Emperor, Grand Overlord or battlegrounds leaderboards and titles, it is all meaningless and irrelevant.

If PvP is to be saved then we need major improvements in these three departments and nothing less. It will be the deathknell of PvP if things just continue to stagnate in these conditions forever.

I think performance is the foremost issue. As long as that is at an acceptable level, I can deal with the other issues that affect PVP. The worst feeling is when you are enjoying PVP and in the mood for more, but you're sort of forced to log off because your abilities just stop working because of the lag.

In regards to balance, one thing I don't see players talk about a whole lot in relation to the upcoming no-proc campaign is that ZOS is soon tasking itself with balancing the game for two forms of PVP that operate under vastly different sets of rules. If the initial no-proc testing is anything to go by (I played every day of the initial 3-week test), class balance in a no-proc environment will be vastly different from 'regular' Cyrodiil, as the sad reality is that some classes get carried by procs more than others. I'm curious what the developers' vision is regarding this issue, and whether it was taken into enough consideration when the call for no-proc was heeded.

For rewards, though... I guess that's subjective. I'm looking forward much more to those 5 stars next to my name than any title I can earn. It's true, though, that most PVP achievements seem to reflect an investment of time rather than some difficult feat.
