How does Purge work?

Hey,

does anyone know how Purge works in Detail? When I have more than 6 group members affected by negative effects and more than 3 different dots or debuffs each player, how does prioritisation work? Based on distance? Severity of the dot/debuff? And if it's the latter, what are the most severe effects? Immobilisation, a high damage dot, or strong major debuffs like maim, vulnerability and defile?
Or is it just rng which effect gets removed from which player?

+1 because I'd also like to know! If anyone has a definitive answer.

It's just a guess, but I've had the suspicion that the effects are purged in the order they were received. This is just a guess though.

Been playing magplar for 7 years and honestly can't tell you.

Knowing how backwards this game has gotten, I'd be 0% surprised if it's alphabetical or something stupid like that

    Stupid silly answers:
    • Alphabetical by character name.
    • Based on your trial dummy dps.
    • Did you purchase any crowns in the crown store? No? No purge for you.
    • Rank order of who has killed the most mudcrabs in the last year.
    • Is the player still standing in the red? No purge!

Pretty sure it purges random dots/debuffs, not sure about distances or anything like that though.
Thats why we used to put 1 point in healing reduction (CP 1.0) It didnt do anything, cause it was less than 1%, but it was another debuff that could get purged instead of actual dots.

I always imagined prioritization always favored the negative effects that were first applied. When I fight ball groups and players that use purge I seem to see my first debuffs getting wiped away first.

I've wanted to test this but it is very hard to discern from logs and trying to test it in a more systematic manner is very labor-intensive.

What I can tell you for certain is that it is limited to 6 targets per application (...but you already knew that).

After that, to the best of my knowledge, the targets are chosen via RNG with no prioritization toward the total number of negative effects nor the severity of those effects. That said, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to learn that targets are chosen via a distance formula - I just have never concretely observed this as being the case.

As for which effects are purged, your options are highly likely either a queue or a stack as I doubt that the effects are chosen randomly (that would just be crazy from a programming point of view). So either the oldest effects are purged first or the newest.

I'm sorry that that's not very helpful. We're all in the same boat until someone actually gets a very patient group together and does the tests.

However, I hope that your merely asking these questions in such a thoughtful way goes a little bit toward dispelling the usual ill-informed forum reaction to purge as being a wonder tool that instantly wipes away all effects from your entire group. Because it definitely is not. It's 18 effects max per cast and that doesn't go very far unless you have several players using it during crunch time.

Those two sentences seem to contradict each other. Was "first" a typo for "latest", or "more" a typo for "less"?

    Eeek!!! My bad!

Yes, I meant to say the first debuffs placed seem to be the first to go.
