Corrosive armor, why does this ultimate not affect our core damage abilities, which are mainly damage over time? Doesn't make sense to only buff direct damage when the whole theme of the class is sustained pressure with dots.

The initial damage of your DoTs ignore the physical resistance so it's still benefitting your abilities. And yes, Noxious Breath and Venomous Claw have a direct damage component to them so it's not 100% worthless to you. DK is direct and DOT focused.

The fact that it also does not provide Spell Penetration is another huge issue.

Yes but, it's quite worthless for the initial hit as the main damage comes from letting it tick for the full duration and the dots last 14 secs and Corrosive is 12 sec so just for it to buff the initial hit reinforces the point that it should let the entire dot be affected. Dots are pretty weak otherwise imo.

Once upon a time it did. Then ZOS invented Onslaught and everyone started running that new toy. We also had a patch (Spellbreaker, if I remember correctly) where DOTs were doing insane damage. Somewhere along the line ZOS decided that 100% penetration on DOTs was too much in PvP. To the best of my recollection this was because people complained about Onslaught. I do, however, remember distinctly that ZOS nerfed Corrosive Armor at the same time as Onslaught for "consistency", even though no one ever complained much about the former skill. Of course the DOT meta is long gone and Onslaught has fallen into disuse, but ZOS never ever just roll things back exactly to the way they were before.
