Arrow spray doesn't proc Morag tong?

In testing on a dummy, it doesn't seem like the Morag Tong set buff is proc'ing from arrow spray (or bombard or acid spray). Is there a constraint on the "direct damage" condition? I could see it for acid spray since that applies a dot (although I assumed the first hit would count as direct damage) but the other two are straight up direct damage.

As an aside, I thought the first tick of DOT's were considered direct damage. When did they change that?
Chook (fill in the blank) or Chookana (likewise): I learn more by dying so teach me some more!

Acid spray is buffed by master at arms but doesn't proc Morag Tong
Sub assault is not buffed by master at arms but does proc Morag Tong

    Confirmed.

    Gotta love consistency . . .

The way the tooltips are written, all forms of the skill should qualify as doing the direct damage necessary to proc Morag Tong. While Acid Spray does add a DoT, that part comes separately after the initial hit of poison damage, which should qualify. (An additional DoT component would not erase the fact that the initial hit of the skill is still direct.) If that first hit of any of the morphs isn’t proccing MT, I’d say that sounds bugged.

You can verify that the initial hit of each morph is considered direct damage independently of MT by comparing the damage done with Master at Arms slotted versus unslotted. (I would not rely on comparing the tooltips alone, as Master at Arms was bugged so that it improved direct damage without impacting tooltips, and I can’t check at the moment if that UI issue was ever fixed.) If Master at Arms does not improve the damage of the initial hit of Arrow Spray and its morphs, then they are for some reason not being considered direct damage as it seems they should.

(The Master at Arms star can also be used to check whether the first tick of a DoT is considered direct. But quite a few skills are something of a hybrid where they have an initial direct damage component followed by a separate DoT component. Acid Spray is one such skill. Master at Arms should improve the first part and Thaumaturge the second.)

How are you testing whether MT is proccing at all, though?

I was testing by looking at the combat log in combat metrics add on. MT was proc’ing off of light attacks, whirlwind and even sub assault but not any of the arrow spray morphs. Tested all individually on a dummy.

Ok, Master at Arms should show whether they’re not being considered direct damage at all or if they’re just not on the list to proc MT, then. I’ll see if I can test that later today.

Thanks for the update! It would probably help the devs to /bug report both of those things. I’ll do the same.
