Serious Question to PvE Players

What do you guys have against PvP? I’m not saying all but a majority of you guys despise PvP. Doesn’t spamming the same rotation at a trial boss all day get boring? With PvP it’s never a boring moment and always different outcomes. There’s so many sets players can theory craft and make there character so unique and have others wondering “Wow that was cool, what sets do you run?” But with PvE it’s mother sorrows or relequen on almost every build. I understand the satisfaction of clearing a trial and getting cool skins and loot but then what’s next? With PvP: winning a duel, 1vX , or dropping 20+ kills in a BG with a build you made by yourself is far more satisfying in my opinion, and after that you can come up with a new build and so on. There’s never a boring moment. Although at the end of the day i understand why many choose to play PvE other than PvP. Some may think the skill gap is too high for them to just start into PvP. Some may think it’s too sophisticated to develop proper burst. There’s a lot a reason why many choose PvE other than PvP, but there’s no need to hate it. The learning curve may be steep but anyone can develop skill with effort applied. Much Love to all ESO players :)

It’s partly how they say “there” when they mean “their”. That and the ganking.

I enjoy Midsummer/Midwinter Madness. It’s great fun. I have nothing (apart from the ganking) against PvPers playing their own game, doing their own thing. Each to his (or her, sexist) own.

"There’s so many sets players can theory craft"

...and there! Right there! That's where I just lost interest and went the other way. See, I am a gamer, and a story-lover. I don't mind action, though that has never been my strong suit in games. But to think that I would make long lists of all the armors and weapons and skills in the game (and redo them every other patch) to mathematically calculate which setup is the most effective? That is just not fun to me. That is work. As in "something I want to get paid real world money to do". :-P

Not to be flamey though, I get that some people love doing that, and that is fine. To each their own. But me, I can't imagine trying to keep all the secret calculations and whatnot in my already forgetful head to do maths I haven't bothered with since my late teens. :-P

(I don't hate PvP though, I should add, but I do suck something fierce at it.) :p

Very satisfying being zerged and insta killed. Then bagged by a low Cp who was at the back of that zerg spamming snipe...
The toxic chat that doesn't ever stop. The lag, the rage and saltiness. The ability to get stunned and CC'd over and over without ever being able to break free quickly.
    The list goes on.
Me personally I've done all there is to be done in pvp. I do my pvp and ic daily quest and it stops there. Farm the odd telvar maybe.

I'm sure there's many that mix both
Pve isn't just spamming the same rotation.
There's much more to take into consideration.
    Group set up and coordination.
    Mechanics
Playing different roles and classes to mix it up a bit and doing different raids. So it's not always the same.
Being able to obtain rare skins/titles even mounts that not many are able to do.

Each to their own of what they get more enjoyment out of

For me there's a few reason. Mostly I'm not at all competitive in that way. I don't have to be better than anyone other than myself. PvE suits me, learning mechanics and improving enough to get achievements.

That said I do like to PvP sometimes, but it's the tactics I enjoy, not killing people - so I guess it comes down to another kind of PvE with less predictable mechanics!

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

Ok, I'll will take this thread in good faith and answer: -

    1) I don't dislike PvP but I generally dislike the mechanics of MMORPG PvP. I love an arena shooter. I dislike zergs, I dislike gear/ xp advantages, I dislike ganking, and camping.

    2) I specifically dislike the lag and sluggishness of a lot of the combat controls in ESO, which make PvP unsatisfying.

    3) I dislike Cyrodil. I think the zone should be half the size with the same number of objectives, and then it would be less of a running simulator and more of an actual pvp zone.

    4) I dislike that there is no simple mechanism to switch between a PvE/ PvP build in ESO, meaning you need a separate PvP character, or to completely rebuild your character every time you switch between the two.

    Hopefully that provides some explanation.

    OK, I'll bite...

I have no issue with PVP activities, per se. In fact, I tend to enjoy them in the right situation. My issue is entirely with the trash talking, epeen strutting and general toxicity that I am subjected to when I engage in PVP. This isn't exclusive to ESO, it seems to be present in most MMOs that I've played.

Please note -- I am absolutely NOT saying that all, or even most, PVP players exhibit this toxicity. Nor am I saying that it is more or less common in PVP vs PVE players. But the difference is in how it plays out. For most PVE functions, I am only dealing with 3 other people, often friends, and I have complete control over who I interact with. Whereas in PVP, I am interacting with far more people, and no control whatsoever over who I am forced to deal with. And that means no control over whose toxicity gets thrown my way.

I have yet to play a single instance of PVP without at least one person demonstrating the above mentioned toxicity. And frankly, one complete stranger's toxicity is more than I have the bandwidth for. I play games like this to unwind and relax after a hard day -- not to be a target for someone to dump all their life's frustrations upon.

Oh, that! That I can explain easily. People are forced into a PvP environment to do stuff to earn tickets and rewards. An environment smack full of gankers, spoilsport and general baxtards. It isn't just not fun, it is outrageously frustrating.

I remember before I started PvP-ing (and mind you, I still zugg at it), it was hell. I tried to do the PvE-content as well as I could, but every few minutes a band of enemy players snuck or raged in and took the town, killed all PCs they could find and than just hang around there.

It is just utterly, totally frustrating. Even more so when you have no idea how to PvP, and get ganked every so often. :-(

Seems you're confusing hate with dislike. I'm sure some do hate PvP but a vast majority seem to simpy dislike the idea of being killed by other players. Personally, I could care less for PvP because all anyone seems to do there is kill each other. If you see it, you kill it. You don't stop to ask well maybe that person is just here for the quests, treasure hunting, or maybe skyshards. I avoid Cyro because there's really nothing more annoying than getting killed by a random person after finally reaching where the treasure map chest is located... Or finally reaching the quest npc only to get killed by some random person before I can turn it in. And all those AP points PvPers work so hard for? Yea they don't mean anything to me because there's nothing I want to get with them.

But don't misunderstand my venting as complaining about PvPers. You do what you want and I'll do what I want. My dislike of what goes on in PvP is my problem, not yours. I'll most likely be trying the event just like everyone else. I won't necessarily enjoy it probably but I do want the last bits for the personality.

As a PvE player I do not hate PvP. I just do not like that gameplay type at all. I have actually made a PvP character, and constantly try to suggest ideas which would make me get started into PvP. Like a new-to-PvP IC.

Winning a BG as first, which I often did on my PvP build, is fun. Like low level BG's are fun. But balance and players are too unpredictable to make it lasting fun. You could win 5 times in a row, or take 8 tries to even get the daily random BG reward. And in the case of the IC, walking away with nothing after hours of time, is not fun! In both cases, this is time spend in a harsh way, with nothing to show for it.

And yeah I have also experienced toxicity in PvP. When I took my PvE tank build into PvP and they couldn't kill me at all, the whispers started hehe. I don't mind though, as I ignore those.

Another thing that I do not like about PvP is, that it requires gear different from PvE. Which means I'd have to equip a character twice, to even get started in PvP.

But the overall thing that makes me strongly dislike PvP, is spending hours of time with nothing to show for it. As I mentioned above.

PS: I have made several PvP mode suggestions in the past.
PPS: In the past, the first few days of PvP-events, I actually enjoyed myself. As I was up against other PvE'ers, and not immortals.
PPPS: Forcing players into PvP with event tickets and such, does not help either. Players should flow into PvP, but the game currently has no way of doing this.

The OP shouldn't confuse competitive PvE with meta builds (much the same as PvP) with non-competitive PvE in which every player adopts his own approach to the game including, for example, hybrid builds.

I don't play PvP any more because I dislike it, but I don't hate it and nor am I scared of it as PvPers rather stupidly often allege about PvEers. I don't play competitive PvE because I prefer to play in my own way and in my own time without any sense of pressure to keep up. Ultimately, however, after over 20 years of massively multiplayer gaming in a variety of ways I play non-competitive solo/cooperative PvE because it is enjoyable and, for me, a lot less boring than running in a pack in PvP or rushing through a dungeon in a pre-set way according to YouTube in competitive PvE. Each to his or her own, however!

Ahhh great response! I assume this is what most PvE people go through when questing in cyro.

This thread is really not useful, but I will answer you. I have pvped in lots of games, what has always ruined it for me is the toxic behavior of some pvpers. The taunting baiting and mean nasty comments. I don't need that in my life I don't pay for ESO plus to subject myself to that kind of behavior. If I had my way Everytime someone acted that way their address and phone number would appear on screen so they could get a nice in person visit. But that's just wishful thinking.

I like a good story. With a beginning and and ending of some sort. There is no end goal. No scene where you see your alliance leader at least briefly sit on the ruby throne. Its just endless cycles of violence, and that gets boring. Very repetitive. Over and over again the same thing. Oh look I got killed again, for the 500th time, time for a long horse ride. Live. Die. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat....

If you genuinely wanted to know, why did you tell them how they felt?

"I’m not saying all but a majority of you guys despise PvP."

Thats not asking a question, its telling people how they feel.

There was a poll in the forums (your audience) asking about PvP vs PvE. Surprisingly many did both. Even the author admitted their surprise. PvE-only won by a very slim majority.

Assume that 10% of PvEers are indifferent, and I think thats being extrememly conservative, its reasonable to say that the "majority" do not in fact despise PvP and the question along with the statement following is divisive.

Some people dont like PvP. The end.

Couldn’t the same be said for PvE players? When someone has low dps or isn’t performing that well in a dungeon they say things like “Dps sucks Good luck” then leave the dungeon abandoning group. Again not saying all PvE players are like that. Same with PvP players.

More or less same with me.
I'm not competitive. I play to relax, not challenge myself. and I don't understand that "my peepee grows when winning PVP" mentality.

IF i do BG's I love it when I get CTR, since that's only actually fun BG for me. Also I hate it when doing daily BG I'm carrying my team, and I can't win 1on1 even if it was my life on the line.

What I REALLY dislike in PVP are griefers. And their excuses for griefing others (like: "you're in PVP zone, expect to be griefed").
If ZOS would make no PVP Cyro and IC an DLC, I'd instantly buy it, even if it was 10k+ crowns.

I see a lot of “PvP is toxic” but are we forgetting that PvE players abandoned dungeon groups because someone isn’t doing all too well? Both sides have their flaws.
