    Hmmm My way of thinking...

Penetration is a straight up DPS increase
    Dmg Done is a given
Quickening lets them fire more skills which is a DPS increase

If I still had PTS I would test the different kind of gears on Companion and crunch the numbers to see which kills the identical enemy the fastest.

Since you can't hump test dummy with companions. My best guess is quickening>penetration>+dmg>crit. That's who I'm building my dd. Of course any drop is better than no drops, so I use an item tell I get a better one to swap. Instead of paying silly amounts for 1.4% damage increase on a 7k dmg build.

A lot of recommendations on early testing talked about quickened trait on dps and there were some videos out on testing that which you can see. Personally I did not find that too helpful necessarily, though I still don't have my companion maxed out.

I have been leveling up Bastian as a mag-dd using combo of aggressive, focused, and shattering pieces. I have only two with quickened. He is level 16 now and has destro maxed, and guild lines maxed.

Earlier levels I had him using quickened only as was recommended by some testers. His dmg was terribly low. Since changing the pieces over to what he has now, he can put out quite a bit of dmg even on vet add pulls in vet-base game dungeons I have been soloing to test him. I've deliberately pulled packs of adds on him and then let him deal with them, to see if he would die but he doesn't. They are all dead pretty quick. Am planning to try a vet DLC next to see how he does with those.

My guess for now that penetration is for damage most effective up to a certain amount of penetration
We need addons and testing to be sure
Quickening is increasing damage the most if you have only damaging abilities. But we don't know at the moment precisely how the casting times of abilities reduce the amount of light attacks and their damage. Penetration works for both.
And stacking penetration has a diminishinbg effdect per piece of gear spend.
If the +damage factors are additive per kind of factor, straight or diminishing, there is (very likely) a multiplicative effect from combined differing factors.

With damage you can use CMX when you as player only initiate a fight.
But still... you need a long duration fight to get good numbers whereby ! your companion does not waste tiome with roll dodges and blocking.

We really need an addon giving a time log for a companion with damages and heals.

We should have fought for our village and not have backed down, with our tail between our legs. Now my home village is in shambles, the houses burning, the invaders feasting.I swear every day to Shor that after Molag Bal has been defeated, I will hunt down the invaders and restore peace in Bleakrock and drink my mead with my friends at the market place".PC-EU
