PC or Mac client on Bootcamp?

Due to consistent crashing issues running ESO on Big Sur, I've decided to give Bootcamp a try. Both ESO and Bootcamp are on an external hard drive, and I had to erase the drive in order to install Bootcamp, so now I need to reinstall ESO. Apologies for the dumb question, but I'm wondering: do I download the PC version of ESO, since I'll be running it on virtual Windows software?

I would think so, if you're wanting to run it under Windows via Bootcamp. But disclaimer: I have no knowledge or experience with using Bootcamp.

I'm 95% sure I used the windows version of ESO back when I had a set up similar to what you describe. I expect the downloader will hit errors early on if you try and install a version it doesn't like though, in case I'm misremembering.

I do remember that my external hard drive started getting sluggish and making bad sounds after a few months of running something as intensive as ESO, so be mindful of that as well :#

Yes, I'd recommend you download the PC version in Windows after running the launcher setup. A couple of years ago, I had my 2013 MBP with Bootcamp (dual boot) and used to run ESO off an old external Buffalo thunderbolt drive. It worked great and was very stable, more so than the Mac version at the time. I also did the same with a partition on a 2014 iMac and it worked even better.

So, my experience is that running ESO via PC Bootcamp was noticeably more stable with better performance than the Mac OS version.

Sad to say but yes, go windoze. The mac support here is nil to negative numbers.

I don’t think Windows on Bootcamp is ‘virtual’ Windows. It’s a Windows PC (assuming it’s an Intel Mac). I haven’t used Bootcamp for games but I used it for Windows applications and it was just a Windows laptop. You couldn’t run the Mac client on Bootcamp anyway.
