Which companion do you prefer?

Do you prefer Mirri or Bastian, and why? Which role do they fill for you?

Personally, I find that Bastian does better in a fight than Mirri does, at least in my case. I haven't leveled them up yet, or played around with different gear setups, so for all I know my opinion might change as Mirri gets better skills and gear. Bastian acts as a DD for my low-DPS, tanky main, and does a pretty good job at it.

neither as both require me too be adjust how I play in a way that annoys me. I CAN dismiss Bastian before looting thieves troves, but summoning him back takes a few extra seconds. and don't even get me started on Mirri and her torchbug issue.

Why is there not a Both option? Mirri for mobs, Bastian for bosses. I use Mirri for trash packs with an AOE build where she does a lot of upfront damage, but is super squishy and dies frequently; that's okay though she's meant for it. Bastian is built tough with buffs galore so he never dies and keeps me safe on bosses, while he doesn't do much damage himself neither of us take a lot of damage even on heavier fights.

I haven't spent much time with Bastian, other than his initial quest to get him.

I have Mirri set up as a healer in mostly dropped blue gear and about level 12. She does a decent job (think she's only died once).

Don't care much for her flying insect issues and not a fan of her not respawning after I use the banker or merchant.

I would also like to see her not pull aggro so much! Or at least not get aggro then take a jog down the street with the boss. She'll definitely get a time out the first time she resets an boss! (Almost happened the other day... grrr).

But all in all, she's not too bad to have along on the journey.

Once I get her maxed though, I'll prolly switch over and run around with Bastian for a bit to see what he's all about.

To be honest, it never dawned on me. However, the point was to see if people prefer one over the other, so a "both" option wouldn't be helpful for that. If you have no preference, then just don't pick one or the other. You can still explain that you enjoy both of them, and why.

Huh I thought it was the opposite, Mirri for more single target. Bastian for crowds, even his AoE ultimate is made in a way that to get the best use out of it he has to be in a crowd otherwise he's just waisting it on one target. That's why his ultimate should be adjusted for those who play him like a mage because the way it is now, it works best when he's a melee.

Neither? Mirri at least tolerates stealing, but the no bugs thing is really limiting. Bastian's healing set up is far more useful to me in combat, but the no stealing is really really annoying.

^ See I have no prob with that, it takes like 2 seconds for the companions to come back from dismissal. I don't like a bunch of npcs on my character when stealing anyway, sometimes they get in the way, and normally when you're stealing you're getting into fights anyway. So they don't really need to be with you during it.

I went through the entire Dark Brotherhood questline. I just dismissed Bastian when it was time to kill people lol

Cannot choose. Basian is better in fight for me, but I cannot steal near him. Mirri is great in cities, as she do not mind me stealing, but I cannot gather resourses normally. There is always this on bug that just tempts me to get it.

Mirri is way easier to play alongside. I find her less judgey!

I hope we get a companion that is chaotic neutral and doesn't care about anything. And maybe it'll be hilarious if lowering their rapport unlocks stuff! A challenge for sure!

Everyone mentions her bug problem but that's not what I take issue with at all.

It's moreso unlike Bastian she constantly seems like being an adventurer is an annoyance to her. She reminds me of Serana complaining about simply traversing. Unlike Bastian who is always ready for a fight, ready to engage in anything she always comes of as not really wanting to be bothered. You get into a fight she will groan about it sometimes whereas Bastian is all for it. Even sometimes when you summon her she acts like you owe her whereas Bastian is like LETS GO! whatever it is!

Main difference between the two characters is how Mirri responds after a fight vs Bastian

Bastian: That's it, are you hurt?
Mirri: Me, me, me, me.

Unlocked Mirri as a houseguest yesterday, was pleasantly surprised by the quality of her personal quests. She's got some great dialogue lines and the voice actor does a superb job, often making me laugh. I think Mirrri feels quite three-dimensional and deep as a character.

I wasn't sure what use I'd have for companions at the start, just put on Ring of the Pale Ale and good to go, but Mirri's personality has won me over. I might take her with me more often now just because I like her rather than because she's genuinely useful.

I do prefer bastion over mirri but if I am completely honest they are both as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike when it comes to combat.

I have got bastion built as a tank and leveled him to 13 but if doing Vet content he dies so many times I just end up leaving him dead. He dodge rolls when there is no need to and stands in red circles like an idiot.

Level 13 is not nearly enough to do vet content with them, Bastian doesn't have half of his tanking skills at that level lol

I have looted many thieves troves with her out and never ever did she give me any negative rapport for it.
I did accidentally catch a bug once but the amount of negative rapport for that was next to nothing.

So really, unless you are specifically farming for bugs, the general statement of "Mirri doesn't let you harvest" is utter nonsense.

Wrong!

I have every tank skill for the build apart from the ultimate and have him in bolstered gear. The issue with companions is that the AI is garbage.

Then somethings not adding up because between the test from the Esoheads, some of the post on the boards do not add up with what has been tested and proven to function. We have countless videos with atleast bastian tanking vet dungeons and bosses, and yet we still have post like this on the boards. Are we actually doing what we're supposed? like actually?

Mirri has always seemed quite enthusiastic whenever I have looted a Thieves Trove.

Neither, they both have annoying 'preferences', neither learns not to pull untill reset, or not to stand in stupid!

& I though SWTOR had it bad, but all TES games are in a league of their own for poor AI!

This 110% I still use Mirri and plan to use them both for different characters and situations, but Bastian is by far my favorite just cause his attitude is far easier to get along with. It makes me feel like I have an actual friend XD.

Mirri's bug issue is just icing on the cake for why I don't travel with her as much.

I thought I would prefer Mirri from the preview stream but I'm finding I like Bastian a lot more. Maybe it's because some stuff has happened in my life but I find his philosophical musings, attitude and general demeanor to be quite nice. Mirri is always sarcastic and I want to kick her.

My touch screen is a bit broken so I think I accidentally voted for Mirri (can I change this?) but I actually prefer Bastian. I haven't bought Blackwood but from what I've heard, Bastian seems really sweet.

Mirri..I love her backstory as she rides the fine line of legal and illegal acts, lol. She's pretty cool, imo. **I don't want to know what she's like if I got on bad terms with her though, lol.
