Why not? I think it will next time we get new char. selection screen. It would be strange if not.

There was speculation on the PTS that moving the mount further back and out of the way for the Blackwood character select screen was for this very reason.

Either it wasn’t or they didn’t actually follow through on implementing it.

The way they ended up implementing companions it's not exactly like you're "slotting" X companion permanently the same way you have an active mount or pet.

The companion can be dismissed automatically by the game at any time when you log in after all. Based on zone population and whatever.

How long do people spend on the character selection screen in order for this sort of thing to be of any significance (and how do they avoid being kicked out)?

True, but shouldn’t there be a way to determine if you have a companion active at logout and show them on the character screen if so?

Otherwise it feels to me like they minimized the mount for no reason at all.

I dont think it would work. The pet and mount are both chosen. The compagnion on the other hand works more like a memento that you use on will. That makes it hard for the game to decide which one should be used.

It's not that complicated. If you log out with an active companion, they appear on your character page.

I can quick slot pets too if I wanted and swap those about whenever (and have on a couple of characters), it still knows to display the one that's active when I leave.

But a memento is temporary. It would require precise timing to log out with the memento active, and it may now be impossible with the recent delays I've seen in logging out even in safe zones.

A companion is a toggle. They stay active until you toggle them off. That makes them closer to pets (which can be toggled off as well) than to mementos (which are one-time triggers).

What is more needed is a weapon sheathed/unsheathed option for both character selection screen and outfitting the companions. So bothered by not seeing the main part of the staves.

(Why are staves carried with their ehhrm knobs up anyway? Swords, maces and axes are all carried hilts up, working part down, though it would make more sense to turn those over :)
