So will Trophies auto-pop on PS5? Or do you need to do everything again?

Xbox seemingly shares it's achievements across systems, but the PS5 version has its own Trophy list.

Will I need to create a new character and do EVERYTHING again? Because that would suck (Looking at you, Flawless Sacrament).

The only other game I played last gen then the enhanced once the game loaded up the achievements all popped one after another so hopefully it functions the same way here.
Q: Will platform achievements carry over to the new platforms?
A: Previously earned platform achievements will be accessible on next generation consoles. Xbox platform achievements will be grouped together, regardless of what hardware was used to earn them. PlayStation 4 Trophies will still be visible on PlayStation 5, but new trophies earned on that console will count towards a separate Trophy set that is specific to PS5 gameplay.

The lucky few playing the PS5 version are saying it doesn't auto-pop anything besides stuff like "Hit X Level."

If that's the case, I might honestly stick with the PS4 version. I enjoy trophies, and not having 3 years of gameplay count on this new version is a bit dissuading.

What I don't understand is that the Journal in-game has achievements that match up with nearly every trophy. Why can't the new version simply check that and unlock the corresponding trophies?

That's actually quite upsetting as there are a lot I won't be able to get - all 18 of my characters have already done the main quest for example, so it's impossible to do it again for trophies.

There are others I won't do again - I hated Master Fisher the first time around and I'm not doing it again on a character I don't care about just for a trophy I already have.

I guess if I ever get Emperor I'll be doing it on PS4 for the platinum there :(

    It really is bizarre.

I get that Zenimax got bought by Microsoft, so maybe they're not allowed to make any effort like this on PlayStation anymore.

But a string of code that does a sweeping check of your journal and unlocks the corresponding trophies? That's not difficult in the slightest. Games with much more complicated parameters have done it, like Borderlands 3 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

I also will never do Master Fisher again, and I feel bad for folks who got insanely difficult stuff done that won't count. Like "Fungi Free" in Scalecaller.

I’m also sticking with the PS4 version for this reason, it’s really frustrating. Hopefully it’s possible to update the PS5 client to award the already earned achievements?

Alternatively please just give the PS4 version an unlocked frame rate option when PS5 is detected, we know this is possible from God of War, at least.

I know it’s on PlayStation for not unifying trophy lists between cross-gen games but developers must have control over when trophies are awarded and could add in a task at login to check in-game achievements against which trophies have been awarded?

Actually unifying the trophy lists is on the Devs too. It's apparently not easy, but there are games that have shared lists across generations.

Turns out that's not true for PS4/PS5 cross generation games!

It was one thing for games like Skyrim where saves didn't carry over.

With ESO you can't start a new account because it's tied to your PSN so if you've completed the content there's no way you can EVER get the trophy, unless you delete a character you've spent hours on and probably real money somewhere along the line :(

I've spent 6 months levelling riding on all my characters. I'm not deleting them.

Huh, seems I misremembered. It was a thing for PS3/PS4 games, but apparently Sony actually has a policy now that all Cross Generation games need to have separate trophy lists. Interesting.

Are you saying I have to get emperor again??? Are you crazy??? @ZOS_GinaBruno please confirm this.

If that's the case I delete the game right now and never touch it again.

Sorry but I might even enter berserker mode if that really is true. 😡

99% of the time, games that are cross platform AND carry over game progress automatically unlock any trophies you have previously earned on the older platform.

The outliers are usually a result of bugs and glitches, not an active choice on the Dev's part.

It's one thing to start over for a game that is dozens of hours long. It's another for games that are HUNDREDS of hours long.

Will we get an official statement please?

Some people put serious work into this trophies and you throw them over like it's nothing. Are there really only so few people bothered by this?

What u do if your chars completed the main quest and lvled all skill lines? Do you expect us to delete them???

The people interested in Trophies/Achievements are unfortunately a minority. Most people just play the games and don't even look at them.

I can imagine this’ll keep coming up as PS4 owners slowly upgrade to a PS5 over the coming years but yes it’s a minority issue. Really frustrating they couldn’t get this working in a way that most other games have so far.

Oh, I'm well aware. All the games I can think of that have versions on both the PS4 and PS5 and can transfer save data/progress have auto-pop.

Just looking on my Console's hub, Borderlands 3 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla are immediate examples.

I have a very hard time imagining that anyone who is serious about trophy hunting, such as myself, will ever touch the ps5 version with the way this is apparently being handled. I have spent almost 3 years working on those trophies and am only missing 3 at this point: Emperor, Master Fisher and the one bg related trophy where you have to capture 3 relics in one bg, don't remember the name right now. That means I have done all of the dungeon related trophies, and you better believe that I'm not going through stuff like Cooling Your Heels or Fungi Free again! Those were bad enough to do once and I'm certainly not going to do them again, no matter what - which obviously robs me of the chance of ever upgrading ESO to the ps5 version and I feel seriously cheated by that!

I get that trophy/achievement hunters are a minority and most MMO players don't care about this sort of thing, but then again would it really have hurt ZoS to implement the autopop feature? It would have helped said minority without damaging anyone else. I really don't get it.
This poor little Bosmer stealth passive had passionate friends and a big loving family!
