    Just a guess here:
Healer: cooldown reduction and healing boost
    DPS: increase dps (aggressive?)/pen
    Tank: increase resistances/block

Most if not all can benefit from Cooldown reduction, the rest comes down to what they need to do. Healers need to be ready to heal quickly, dps needs to hit hard, tanks need to stay alive and keep agro.

Really depends on what you're doing with them, my Bastian is a Spoony Bard so I have him with Augmented and Quickened so his buffs can keep casting and stay up almost indefinitely. While Mirri is all AOE damage so Aggressive or Quickened and Shattering. Unable to see their Crit rate, there's no way for certain how to calculate the usefulness of stacking it. I don't bother to use them as healers since there's no way to regulate their casting, unless the spell itself has conditions, they are going to blow through the rotation whether it actually helps or not.

With out seeing the traits being tested one at a time on a test dummy, it's near impossible to know which traits are actually best for dps. Sadly since gear is a rng grind, it's too costly and not worth trying to buy the "best" items.

Still a lot of these mechanics are opaque, since they aren't the same thing as player traits.

I'd assume for DPS -- given how important penetration is for player DPS -- that a significant amount of 'Shattering' is best for DPS role.

I believe it should apply to their light attacks too, even if they are between cooldowns.

But if it's balanced correctly there's likely very little actual difference over long periods of time statistically. But who knows...

Do Companions show up in Combat Metrics addon yet?

As far as consoles go, you cant take them into house to work on test dummies. and getting trait gear is too viariable now for proper testing. If you have the variety of gear for testing, then you have to use isolated overland mobs for testing.
