chest, gut, & hip sliders changed on the finished character, I checked using a change appearance token because he looked a little off, so I deleted him without finishing tutorial.

Characters have always looked different on the character selection screen and in-game than they do during character creation. Drives me and my friends insane.

yes they do. it's the lighting, they can look good in creation, and end up looking like trolls in game, but my issue was the body shape itself, gave him minimum waist for example, and in game he had a big waist, when I checked with appearance change token his waist was in the middle...

There's no size comparison which is one of the bigger issues, the height slider safest bet is to to put them at max height if you don't intentionally plan to make it a short character. If they were standing next to a mannequin or an in-game NPC you could get a good idea how they would look.

I locked my choices after selecting them tho, and checking with the appearance token because my character just didn't look right from the get go, showed me 3 of them were overwritten,

I was just curious if anything similar happened to anyone else.

    Thanks for your replies guys!

I was redoing one of my beta characters for the second time and some hinky stuff went down:

First time was because at some point her eyes (as a vampire) decided to completely bug out of her head (with disguise on hiding vampirism she was normal looking). Anyway, use of (the free) change appearance token worked as expected.
That was a couple years ago, fast forward to a couple months ago:

Pay for a change of appearance token because had to un-vamp due to changes and character looks...
well, kind of awful really. So, I go to it and get her looking back to her old self before vamping, and as soon as I come off the adjustment screen and back to character select she changed completely from what I had done. I actually screamed out loud and freaked out my furbabies xD

So, angry for just spending 1k crowns on this atrocity, logged in ready to make a ticket and take a look at what has been done.
Well, it IS NOT what I was shown on the adjustment screen, BUT it's not anywhere near as jacked up as what I was shown on the character select screen. So, I'll live with it instead of fighting with customer support (because that is a headache I don't need!)

Not sure what to say about that when customers would rather just eat broken glass than deal with support, but yeah,
something is very, very wrong with the appearance change situation.

Yea I just created him, so it just annoyed me, had it been my main and I was changing something, and it didn't come out right, I most def would have contacted support!

It has to do with the focal length of the camera in chargen is different that in game. So your characters get thicker and fatter cheeks etc in game.

Not to mention different lighting in chargen than anywhere else.

Characters have always looked different on the character selection screen and in-game than they do during character creation.

This is why I suggested a grace period where you can go back and adjust your character's look before it is set in stone.

It would really be nice is the sliders also gave you a numerical value so you could replicate characters if you wanted... and it would be especially nice if the height slider actually told you how tall your character was.

Can't tell you how many times I've created a character only to delete him 30 seconds later because in game an outfit looks absolutely terrible on the character. I literally had to buy another change appearance token to fix my main character after the first token left him with chicken arms (that's right you heard it). On creation his arms looked fine but in game, chicken arms. And I've had to fix the hips on several characters because outfits made them look either too skinny or fat. It's maddening.

It's like the sliders in creation are different for in game visuals. I know some of the outfits/custumes can literally change body shapes of your character instead of forming to yours. Like the timbercrow will give the appearance of wider hips on females and thinner hips on males. Or the corseted riding outfit will give your character a wider waist (even if your character is skinny).

I wish there was an option in game that allowed us to change our appearance without spending crowns. Maybe a npc in the Thieves den that you can pay a hefty fee to once a month to change your character's appearance. Or like others have mentioned, a 24 hour grace period to change appearance after creation.

    Yes, a 1000 times Yes!

All other TES Games worth playing let you do this. Modern Fallouts do this.

This has been a lot more noticeable to me now, I like my characters to have curves, so I go and set sliders for arms/legs to max and usually have gut somewhere in between, yet 90% of motifs make every single one look extremely skinny.

Also recently spent 1000 crowns to edit my main, had the leg slider on max, but she is way thinner in comparison to another character I made 4 or so days ago. They are wearing the same exact motifs too, it's pretty annoying.
I cannot confirm if the sliders have changed as I do not have another token, but surely she looks nothing like she did when I was editing her.

You'll notice to that your characters body will react to certain styles of armor. Including making them thinner or fatter than the original. Some armor styles simply don't translate well with certain body types and can affect your characters appearance.

Certain personalities can warp proportions, too. I notice this with the Brassy Assassin personality. When the right hand is on the hip that arm will manifest "chicken arm" (thank you @cynicalbutterfly ). When your toon lowers that arm it suddenly gains substance! It's a miracle! 😱 Some terribly odd things happen sometimes when your toons' skeletons (the invisible objects that make them move) move into some positions.

I think what OP is saying, is the sliders moved on their own between creation and using a character customization token.
I had this myself just yesterday, Still had my slider screenshots from when i last changed her awhile back, when i first used the token and went to edit her, ALL THE SLIDERS WERE IN DIFFERNT LOCATIONS.

I DIDNT CHANGE THEM, THE GAME DID.
I had 2 tokens so i checked again, screenshotted the new slider locations i had selected and saved my character. Used/wasted the new token..... and sure enough the sliders were in different places from where i had literally just placed them 5 minutes beforehand!

So yeah, i had been seeing the same problem OP.
Its not the shape i set or that i paid to set, its whatever the game feels like giving them when i hit the creation button!

yes,you get me, while there are no numerical values, if I'm creating a character and I place/lock the slider under a certain letter, or past that letter, and because it looked odd, I double check using a token, why are they now under different letters? (ie. locked Gut slightly below letter G, but when I rechecked using Token is now under letter S)
I guess game is telling me I don't need another alt, shrugs

Elder Scrolls games did that too. You get to revisit your character creation after the tutorial zone is exited. I am not fibbing as I remember that!

Pretty sure that's exactly what happened on my character that had the chicken arms. I didn't move the slider to give him those. When I went back in to fix him the slider was way lower than I remembered it being. But I had no pics to be sure of that. Still not 100% sure of what happened but I'm sure of those arms not being what they should've been.
I guess what the rest of us are saying is that creation seems to be pretty messed up to start with.

Sliders moving on you can be caused by the Scroll Wheel on the mouse. Make you click and drag to move the list up or down. Or make sure you click away from the slider you were just on to be safe.

I recently made an Imperial woman and swear she had different eyebrows when creating her. The new eyebrows are good but I don't think they are what I selected. I did flick back and forth between races before deciding so maybe that changed it.

There's definitely something off about the character creation camera. I always assumed it was the angle.

I've also noticed that if you back out of the character creator then go back into it, the character will have reset but the sliders remain the same. If you move a slider after that, the character's features suddenly change to match the slider that you moved. I'm not sure if this affects the characters outside of character creation, however.
