My bastion is in fully heavy armor and is focused on fighting alongside me. Makes him tanky enough to survive heavy hits, and he still deals decent damage despite that.

I'm a tank, so I've got that one covered. Basti stays back with his fire stick.

I just wish we could direct companions to stand in certain places. I rarely see Basti throw out his ult since it requires him to be in melee range (and stay there) for a few seconds, which is not that effective.

I have Bastian set up as a healer for my stamblade DPS, and also leveled up his destro staff. Really he has a mix of healing and DPS skills, leaned more toward healing depending on what I'm doing. He's been pretty reliable, if not fireproof, even if I could solo most of the stuff I've done with him. He has been quite useful while a friend and I have gone through some normal DLC dungeons that I hadn't done before, and we've been quite successful duoing those with our Bastians. My friend does vet solo arenas so he's more geared toward survivability than I am, and it's nice to have Bastian's heals while I'm focusing on mechanics and DPS.

Mirri is a bow DPS for both my stamblade and my warden healer/DPS. I also leveled dual wield on her for something different, but she definitely survives better at range. Her fear skill is probably her biggest asset, since she provides effective crowd control without me having to do anything.

I'm hoping the final resto staff skill and fifth skill slot will actually make a difference, but I doubt I would spend gold on quickened companion gear to improve the heals. He's currently just in white gear.

For what anecdotal evidence is worth, I've had Bastian save my butt multiple times with the level 20 resto skill. I have it in his first skill slot, and with blue quickened gear it has a 6-second cooldown, so he can throw it out whenever my health gets super low. Most notably while duoing normal Bloodroot Forge with my friend and our Bastians, as my friend was mostly failing to figure out the stone mechanic thing on the final boss, my Bastian managed to save me like 3 times with that damage shield before I even noticed I'd taken a huge hit. :D

What's better Ring of Pale Order or a Healer Companion in Dungeons?

You can use both. Companions count as a party member so you'll get a slight decrease in the healing from Pale Order, but they can still heal you.

    Tank
Bastion is set up as a tank. As long as I heavy attack the worse NPC enemy he does a decent job of taking that particular aggro off of me.

Ranged companions can pull a boss out of the area and cause it to reset. Mirri is set up as a ranged DD and I am going to change her setup to melee.

    @Dojohoda

If you equip an ice staff, rhen you don't have to worry about her roll dodging all over the place to pull things away. Only the first ice staff skill taunts, so just don't equip that one. So if you want to keep her out of standing in stupid by being ranged and not have her roll dodge everywhere, that's a good option

Only use Mirri. She stays in 5 x medium and 2 x heavy. Normally she has a frost staff (avoids dodge-roll resetting foes and spreading out the battle) and uses ranged skills. But when I play magward, I give her a dagger & shield and change her skills to tank and all melee range.

    More explanation details:

My magward requires a tank or melee range only companion because she loves sending in her bear first. Trouble is a companion takes the same command so the command applies to both bear and companion. A ranged companion will always aggro the target first since their spell/arrow travels faster than the bear and I don't want that.

My other characters are fine with ranged companions.

Fired Bastion permanently for going stupid when we accidently grab a red item instead of activating what we want so will only use Mirri.

Changing skills on companion is easy. Changing gear is VERY user unfriendly so I want to minimize that.

Bastian is set up as a tank. I initially gave Mirri two blades and warp strike, a build I've used as a player many times. I thought it would be cool to fight along side side a person. Instead I spent mot of my time fighting over her corpse.

I gave her a bow, but kept the melee abilities for when she gets charged. It's really cool watching he warp in and slash an enemy I'm fighting, only to somersault back to a ranged position and continue peppering arrows. I swear she can roll farther than I can, I assumed it was an ability at first.

I use BOTH, depending on the character.

For Mirri, i use the dual wield stam damage build. It mirrors my main's fighting style, so they work well together.

For Bastion, i have him set as a ranged Flame mage, also DPS.

If they introduce more companions, later on, i might make some healers or tanks, so i can just swap out based on situations rather than characters but in a game where DPS is all that matters, it just seems like the only way to go.

I have both setup as hybrids.

For me it is about a priority list and getting the ordering right.

Highest priority is heals. Then a shared damage shield. Then ranged damage.

Their gear is a roll of the dice. I check each piece that drops. If blue it'll be a keeper until I finish my gaming sessions where I tend to wind down and consolidate drops, deconstruct gear and sell gear etc.

At the moment Mirri has lucked out. A blue fire staff for sure but her gear is almost all light wiuth a couple of greens. Bastian has had much better success. Apart from his blue bow, he has all blue gear 1/3/3 light/medium/heavy. So for Bastian I am focusing on the gear afixes such as reducing ability cooldowns etc. Mirri has been getting the left overs but neither is really a "main".

I have maxed Undaunted, that was easy enough with just 20 runs each with Bolgrul dailies and they can level up multiple times per day depending on how many characters you have!

I'm almost done with Fighters for both. That's just three dolmens per character per day. Next up I'll do Mages Guild. That's one overland Public Dungean per character per day.

This is very true. I have run with and without (both being ranged damage dealers) and really found little increase in my damage output or survivability.

I usually run Mirri for her witty banter and the fact that I really find her voice sexy... Irritates me when I accidentally harvest a bug though, which I do OFTEN.

They are both magicka damage at the moment. Bastian just turned level 20 and Mirri is 19. When she reaches 20 I will then get them both set up with better gear and builds.

The problem is that I am not sure what I want to do with them. I originally thought I'd have Bastian tank and Mirri heal, but I may keep both damage.

Pretty much always play with Miri when I run a companion. I originally set her up for heals, but honestly I couldnt tell much of a difference. I then set her up as a mag DPS, again, not much to speak of. This could be just weird luck, but she seemed to actually draw more aggro when healing, which I found more annoying.

Truthfully, I barely use them. I am interested in leveling Bastion and making a good faith effort to give him a proper tank build, but it's low on my list of priorities. I feel like that is probable the most useful build for my playstyle if trying to solo some of the tougher WBs and that sort of thing.

My muscular hunky Bastian is in all aggressive blue med armor / jewlry with a purple aggressive bow. I play a tank since launch, it's the only role I like and I hated having to gear swap to do overland. Now I dont have to. No he doesnt instantly delete mobs like a dd player does, but he turns a 30 second fight into a 3 second fight which is good enough for me.

I have ring of the pale order so I don't necessarily need the heals.

My mains mirri because she works well with my magden khajit. I keep her mainly on a Bow build because it's what she seemingly lives the longest on, but the abilities are fairly boring when compared to utilising more magic like starfall and such. So when I want to see some more flashiness I switch her over :)

Interested in Ember though, she seems pretty cool.

The companions are a waste. They don't really do enough damage, hold aggro well enough or heal enough.

They were put in to appease the people that want this to be Skyrim Multilayer.
