Brutal pounce AoE taunting has been fixed and properly working with Tormentor for a while now as far as I have experienced. The skill lock out bug that brutal pounce had did plague me though (which this last update claims to have fixed).
Class doesn't matter too much for tanking in WW form, but obviously does matter more for when you are not wolfed out. I personally recommend just going for whatever class is most comfortable/familiar for you to tank with, especially since you might need to adapt very quickly if you unexpectedly lose WW form at an inopportune moment and will also need to use it while building ult back up to transform.
With Pack Leader's extended transformation time, losing WW form thankfully isn't an issue often, but it still can happen (including by lag causing the server to think you used the button combo for ultimate instead of two separate inputs or just simply accidentally activating ultimate).
The main things WW tanks lack IMO are a pull and a true ranged taunt that doesn't require moving. Swarm Mother monster set can help with pulling in annoying ranged enemies, but they do have to target you in the first place (or at least hit you in some way while you are blocking) for that to work. As for ranged taunting, a WW's speed can help get stuff back into position quickly after leaping away to taunt a distant enemy, but that still usually results in enemies moving around a bit and potentially out of the DD's AoEs.
Overall though, I have had much success and loads of fun tanking as a werewolf with my friends and can definitely recommend giving it a try. (It's even more fun when everyone is a werewolf!)

Try un/reequipping everything and see if it starts working again.
